Renting a class A truck for the DMV road test?

Not saying you were criticizing. But CDL Manuals specifically (MN and ND that I am aware of) tell you to specifically do that maneuver when making a right turn.

Well you both could be right. Just because the button hook itself is legal does not mean it is legal to pull the maneuver while impeding oncoming traffic.

By that wording it seems they expect the situation of impeding traffic to occur. Whether this violates a statute in the vehicle code is a different question though.

It's a crappy situation though. The road test is handled in a perfect world mode that seems to forget the real world. The school should give you another chance IMO. My school did with those who failed. They always said as long as it's obvious that you're trying to improve we'll stick with you.

 

And if he started the maneuver and the road was clear, there was no reason for the examiner to pull the stunt he did. Have him stop yes, but not fail him.

Here in Oregon we have independent testers that will provide a truck (for an additional fee) while you're taking the test from them. Some of them will rent a truck to someone who wants to take the test w/ DMV as well. Maybe there is something like that in ND?

 

You spend 5K or however much at a school and you get 1 shot at a CDL? What kind of crap is that? Look at whatever paperwork that outlines what the school does and see what it says. Its time to name the school so others are aware before they sign up.

 

Please read my first post, there are a lot of requirements to renting trucks these days, you just dont walk in and drive one off the lot like a Uhaul

 

Technically, you are supposed to go into the oncoming traffic lane if you dont have enough space to make the turn from your lane to the lane you're going into, as opposed to swinging out wide to the left, which is what most people do anyways....since doing that will allow a vehicle behind you to swing in between you and the curb.
