Home schooling has a LOT of pluses but you also NEED to give your kids the interaction of being around kids their age, both positive and negative. I know some parents whose schools are great - the kids are home schooled but the kids are also allowed to participate in all the extracurricular activities of the school so the kids aren't isolated at all, know all the kids and interact with them.

I think that's the best route to go. My son was so shy at 4 yrs old we forced him to go to preschool for half a day. One week into it and you couldn't keep him home and he wanted to go on the weekends, too!!!! Great teacher, great place!

I can't believe that everyone is against the school on this one. This 7th grade girl had alcohol at school, end of story. These are items that cannot be purchased by 12 year olds, and these kids know that they are not allowed to have them. Yes, kids will be kids and sneak forbidden items, but they need to have sense enough not to bring them to school. And both girls should have been suspended, one for possession, one for furnishing the alcohol.

Exactly. Kids that age know better. She brought it to school she should suffer the punishment.

I googled the brandy beans OMGAWD they have brandy cherrys ....ya know the chocolate covered cherrys BUT with brandy in them hmm mmm mmm mm

Schools have to come back to center. After working in an innercity schoolfor 12 years I understand BUT common sense has to have its place.

Being from Kentucky, and being familiar with some really tasty chocolate candy made here, called bourbon balls..... Well, I just don't see the big deal. I mean, come on, how's anyone going to even get a buzz from that?:biggrin_2558:

the dealer should be the one suspended. the other girl probably knew exactly what it was and is just as guilty ( if she knew ). the dealer should be the one that the school should focus on. another example of the half-wit society we're living in. if the dealer didn't have it in the first place, the other girl wouldn't have had it.

She is 12 years old. And had candy with alcohol in it..
When parents fail to do their job, it is left up to the school.
Lessons learned while they are young, are easier when you are young.
Should her fisrt lessons of breaking the rules be as an adult could cost her alot more than a few days from school.

I agree with the school's decision. Learing to follow rules is something kids seem to reuse to do. Not they didn't refuse things when we were in school. But, at 12 years old, doing something like that was unheard of. And should be today.

The girl with the booze in the candy knew what she was doing. And was probably doing it for attention.
I hope she learned her lesson. A chooses to associate with better people.

I have learned that if you go looking for trouble, you usually find it.

While I agree with you, I do disagree about whether or not something like this used to be unheard of. Kids have been breaking rules since the dawn of time, if it wasn't an issue, God would not have had to create a commandment about it. You can't tell me that when you were in school, you never knew anyone who didn't break a rule. The difference was, if your friend did something wrong, he knew that if he were caught, he would be in trouble. Now kids and parents both don't want any consequences. What does that teach?
