They (I) don't call them CRAPCADIAS for nothing. I owned a brand new CRAPCADIA, it was a nightmare..... Do a search here you will see , I now have a 2013 780 with d13. Love it. Most people combining about Volvos either didn't own one or have an old used and abused one, or, have an 08-10 model. And any truck from 08-10 I don't care who is the manufacturer, should be avoided at all costs. All manufacturers seem to have it figured out with the new SCR MOTORS. But the CRAPCADIA still has the SAMCAB computer system, and it's garbage.
What truck to get freightliner vs volvo

Do u have an opinion on the 2012

Freightliner service wwas good and bad depending on the dealer. ALL the mechanics agreed the CRAPCADIA was an electrical nightmare. The engine regen problems eventually got solved at Detroit diesel but it was a lot of down time. My truck NEVER WENT HOME WITH ME. I left my personal pick up at the dealer so I didnt have to keep getting my wife to come get me
there
were
several things with the SAMCAB that I was told by the Freightliner service rep I would have to live with, they couldnt fix it.
IT WAS A NIGHTMARE.
IF the Volvo is an SCR motor I would not be afraid of it, tho when it gets older, as ALL the nnew trucks do, electrical issues will be the norm I think, tho I have a friend with 3 of them and no issues yet. I have the extended warranties, including sensor and harnesses, and I will be in a new one in 3-4 years before the 5 yr ware is done.
If I had the time.. I would have ordered a glider, but after my truck burnt I didn't have the time to order and there are issues with bringing them to canada.Road Killer and Vernita Thank this. -
just remember....Volvo's can only be repaired at a volvo dealer. my friend does all my work on my 05 780 w/D12. even he has to send it to volvo to get the overhead done. sure, he can do egr's n stuff like that (remember that the ISX has only 1 egr to go bad, compared to the 2 that a d series motor has), and if you need to get fixed, only a volvo deal can probably do it. isx can be fixed almost anywhere. i LOVE my volvo, HATE my motor

I am pretty sure the D13 has only one EGR? And they seem to have a handle on it, unlike the new ISX that still has EGR issues and will never get you the same fuel mileage. I would want a dd15 before the ISX any day. Detroit seems to have a handle on the dd15 and they get great mileage now, but the cascadia package is a coMplete deal breaker for me.Road Killer and Vernita Thank this.

Nothing wrong, no leaks and nothing electrical, with the 2013 Cascadia I drive. It is a base model, no rack and pinion, no air ride front axle, and it goes down the road with the same sureness the Columbia had with a better ride and less wind noise. It doesn't even have disc brakes, but it has the best braking control of any truck I have driven up until now.
I have watched the b service being done, and learned a few things from that.
There are horror stories about Volvo, too. Probably not as many as with some of the other makes, FL and Volvo have the best new owner satisfaction of all, in that order. The new owner is the thing, they have changed things on the 2013 from the 2012s, and the 2009s were not nearly little trouble as these have been.
I wouldn't want a Cummins in one but I see more of those now than with the DD15. I also see more of them on the used market with the ISX, though I'm not reading anything into that at this time. Ryder is buying all ISX Cascadias from what I have seen, and like I said, I see and talk to lots of drivers with the Cummins.
The perception of problems and reputation are based on what people had experienced, not so much on what they are experiencing now. I actually had a mechanic bragging on the MaxxForce to me at a lease place, only once, but everyone has feelings about what they like and what they don't.
That guy didn't like DEF, but he hadn't seen what has happened at International in the past 6 months.Road Killer Thanks this. -
If your a serious trucker, you want a Frieghtliner. If you wear sweat pants & tennis shoes, you need a Volvo.

BBB is this the kind of independent study your talking about?http://www.dieselnet.com/news/2012/08jdpower.php
Seems like volvo comes up a little short......Road Killer and Vernita Thank this. -
Vernita, you must have asked your question in the right way because no one jumped on you for fleecing a truck from Schneider.
I can offer no opinion on the mechanicals of two models you listed but I can share that the 780 has some ridiculously comfortable space in it. Ours were all '06s and '07s with the D12 and those were great motors. Yes, you'd have EGR issues and EGR coolers that would leak but in general, they weren't bad. When the D13 came out in '08, it had tons of injector cup issues which I'm told are resolved. Those issues were on older models you are not talking about so don't let them sway you. Yes, you will have to go to the dealer for many of the repairs on a Volvo because too many places can't read the Volvo ECM but I don't know how the maintenance works with Schneider anyway.
As for the years you are considering, you didn't mention the mileage on them which to me would be your biggest consideration. if they are between 400K and 500K miles, I wouldn't do either since you are just coming into the nickel-and-dime-you-to-death maintenance range. If they are lower miles than that, you should be okay.
The maintenance question you are asking relating to either of the two is good but take a hard look at your lease and your warranties. Make sure you have a good warranty that will cover you for the time you anticipate paying off the truck. Make sure your lease is paying what the truck is worth and comparable to market. And lastly, don't let your lease options make your choice for you. For example, if everything your research tells you is that a FL with the DD motor would be your best pick, then wait until you can get your best pick. If that happens to be one of the two choices you mention, than go with it.Road Killer and Vernita Thank this.
