but i have driven many cube vans similar in size with a gvwr less than 10,001 lbs
are bobtails subject to DOT rules?

A cube van does not have a 24 foot box does it? -
some do, and many do have gvwr's of less than 10,001 lbs i used to have a ford e350 cube van with a 26ft box and the gvwr sticker was 10,000 lbs therefor less then 10,001 lbs required to be subject to dot regulations.

I asked because I do not know what a cube van is.
I remember being parked in the Texarkana J one night and in the morning I saw a van parked there with a box. Not sure of the box. I laughed because it had a GVWR listed on the truck in decals as 10,000 lbs. -

a cube van also known as a cutaway will have aether a van or a pickup cab with a body mounted on the rear
and 10,000 lbs is under the 10,001 threshold they probably had 10,000 lbs on it to keep from being hassled as some are over 10,001lbs gvwr
basically some are ordered to be less than 10k gvwr to fall under dot requirements some are rated higher for max carrying capacity. basically the only difference will be what the gvwr sticker says -

Now, an interesting question....
I wonder how much the truck weighs and then how much freight it can carry and keep under 10,000.

the answer is not a lot. but the box sides are fiberglass and the box themselves don't weight a lot. most of them that are tagged that way are done like that to avoid dot regs therefore they are not stopping at scales ect and are most likely in all reality over 10k loaded. normally used for local stuff moving vans or small business delivering or hauling there own equipment or supply's or product.
sorry if i got off on the wrong foot there but it seemed to me you were trying to argue that they were all over 10,001 gvwr when i know i have personally looked and and driven some that were not.
also to clear up any confusion as per the op's description describing a cube van and all vehicles being less than 24 feet most cube vans are smaller 12-16 feet typicaly a few larger ones out there but i assume the larger of the trucks the op is describing are most likely larger chassis trucks and probably most certainly above 10,001 lbs probably a illegal carrier that is not following the rules and just hasent been cought yet. my point was that there are vehicles out there that do in fact fall below the requirements in the style and sizes the op had described. -
A van like that would only weigh about #5500 or less, I've moved them.. so if it was dedicated light weight cargo it would work.

Yes, i m looking in a hurry to move. I didnt know how shady this company was,it took a few moths of me working their to see this. I just applied today for Averrit and Raider Express,anybody know if these 2 companies have a rider/passenger policy,like if I could bring my somebody with me sometimes?
