If you work for a big company, they will have "chain banks". If not, then they will buy the chains.

yes he is a company driver. he got the required PO number and submitted what was needed. now they are telling him they will take it out of his check cause they dont pay for them but the states they are sending him has a required chain law stating they have to have them on the truck incase they are needed BUT the company will not let you use the chains.. if its bad enough to chain the want you shut down. He was told under no circumstance to put them on the truck.

With my company, company drivers have chains supplied by the company.
O/O or L/O buy their own.

Hopefully the company will buy them from him when he no longer needs them.

Vast majority of rucking Co's take chaining for granted. They never even mention it in passing let alone training someone to do it properly. An improperly installed chain that comes loose can tear the hell out of a truck and trailer and cause a very nasty service call and repair. The saddest part is that the vast majority of DRIVERS also take it for granted and have not even the first idea about how to chain up. It never crosses most of their minds until they approach a place that may need them. Never believe even the first word out of their mouth about it being safe or not they are scared plain and simple , scared to death. They should be cited and fined up to and including revocation of the CDL if they are on the roadway near or around a chain up area and cannot chain.

Any real truck driver knows chains are part of the job if you run in winter ANYPLACE snow or ice occurs even if only to get out of a ditch or sloped dock. These so called drivers will even attempt to run without chains due to laziness and being scared and wipe out in the median and close to road down for proper real drivers to pass. They need to be off the road forever immediately. Blame the companies or the DOT or anything your heart deisres but if you don't take the time to learn how simple and easy it is to put chains on and how SAFE it makes your vehicle you need to seek a new career.

No one in their right mind should be on the Dragon's Tail even if it is a beautiful summerday out.
