TWIC card and no hazmat

Unless you plan on loading out of Ports then I would say no. I load a lot of container stuff but its already in a warehouse from the port.

 

Depends on which Military Base, i've only been to one military base that asked for my TWIC and had a SCANNER for it... can't remember which base off hand, i believe it was in Wisconsin somewhere.

 

some of them want it, military installations dont have one standard procedure for getting on base, its up to the base commander . red river depot asks for twic, some they just scan your license ( ft. polk.) , some will check ya with dogs( dover afb) , it varies.

 

It's a good idea to have it, might help you snag a load. I needed it for chemical plants & seaports.

 

Have not used my twic card since i've had it and i got it the year they came out. Bin to the port of newark and other ports and places they say you need it and have never bin asked. When it comes up to renew it i will not. Some places do require it but you can still get in with an escort and by paying a fee. Just a big money grab if you ask me

I always remind the broker that it costs money out of my pocket to maintain a TWIC card, and since the load requires one it should pay extra. I have been successful in getting add-ons, usually a rate increase along with $25-$75 to the driver. They had it budgeted to pay an escort for a non-TWIC driver, so why shouldn't I get that cash for having a TWIC?

 

How do you go about gettin a Twic Card when you live no where near one of the offices?

 

You call them or go to their web site. Make an appointment at one of their locations and haul your butt there. Then in 1-3 weeks you haul your butt up there again-select PIN # and they give you your card. I went to OK City office. Much better than going to Houston for free.
