Right now my husband and I ( I don't drive just look pretty in the passengers seat "wink") are averageing 1700 to 2200 a week. To be perfectly honest we have somehow managed to be in the middle of the last couple of ice storms, got stuck in Beckly when they shut the roads down, stopped ourselves in Ms when the ice got bad on the roads and truck, stopped again in NC when the roads iced real bad ( we passed at least 15 wrecks in a 10 mile stretch). So we may have gotten more miles if we could have made better time. (ok I will say we are again stopped because of the storm, only about 2 hrs early, but thats still time and miles not made) It's just winter bad luck coupled with the fact that my husband is not used to driveing on ice (we are from Fl).

We do love the helpfullness of everyone we have delt with in the company, even our DM is pretty ok, her main fault is being new to the job.

IDK about alot of east coasr runs, last trip the only time we were east of the Smokies was when we left home and when we went back. This trip we are on our 3rd week and haven't went past Ohio to the west. Fl to Sc to Ky to Oh to Pa to Oh to Pa to Md to Ct to Nc to errrr North Dakota, lol.

One of the very few things we don't like is the "suggested" routing and fuel stops. We aren't sure how far off of their route you can go, so haven't done it yet except in Fl were their routing was so messed up we saved about 100 miles, but we know the roads.

the suggested routes you don't have to follow if you have a gps or use meltons gps you can go that way sometimes their routes are not always right. as far as fuel stop go if you want your fuel bonus and what not try to follow their stops, but if you noticed that you are running low on fuel or def you can always stop and top off. You said your husbands drives for melton maybe we know each other????

Fuel routes? Straps every 5 ft., Fuel where your told. No thanks. Experienced drivers beware. Do not go. I have never been and I am limited on what I can say because of it, But if you have experience, go somewhere like Keene or Lonestar. I was at lonestar. Great pay, easy to get a fuel bonus, a ton of miles, trucks run 65. You fuel and go whatever route you want. Got two different ways you can go? Want the one that goes to the house? Take it, sleep at home, just dont be late. New Petes and Kenworths with Fridge in the petes I dont know about the Kenworth. Every driver I have ever met at melton has tried to tell me how to secure the "DOT" way. Melton has their own methods and tries to play it off as the DOT method. Dumbassses, thats what a FMCSR is for. All their drivers go through load securement according to their website, experienced or not. They run you hard for three or four months, and then they play seniority on you. I had a friend there they did that too. He kept telling me how great they were, called him by name, yes sir no sir, good miles and then oneday he called said he was sitting. Next morning I called him, still sitting, till that afternoon at which time he would get loaded and drive through the night. Company's like this need to get their head out their assss. You cant expect drivers to stay up all day and wait on a load, and then turn around and tell them the only thing in the area will require them to drive at nite. Stay up all day and nite. Wow. Can you say CSA violation. He later ended up fired after he modified the truck with a shifter of his own. I didnt agree with that one and even tried to tell him. But no, drivers you can find companies that still believe that their drivers are what drive the company. They will leave as much decision making as they can up to you because they know you are captain of the ship and are best equipped to make the right decision. People like melton try to be the driver from the convenience of a cubicle, but will punish you when the decision they made wasnt right because you should told them so. Well, shut up and stop back seat driving. Trust your people and treasure your experienced drivers. New drivers will learn more from an experienced driver then they will from orientation and load securement. Military taught me one major point over all, experience deserves recognition and pay and education deserves a pat on the back.

I use to drive for Roehl right, and they have started putting breathing appartus' in the trucks with OBESE drivers. Who ever told anyone they could play doctor. But to Roehl that is considered being safe. To those that are reading this and wonder what's wrong with that Idea, it's safe, well, I live in my truck, Im not throwing my stuff out to more company stuff init. And if Flying is so much safer than driving, then all you companies proclaiming to be "One of the safest" companies on the road, why would you be making money off the trucking industry when you could be safe and fly.
