Trucker Stories If Volvo's was bad as people made them out to be why do you think they are still selling All trucks have problems you just have to chose which problems you want to deal with. I love the fact that I can cruise down the road without having my butt bounced around like a rag doll I have a bad back and need a smooth riding truck I'm 6'3" so i love the room and since I had all 6 injectors and cups replaced my worse fuel mileage heavy 6.5 running 70mph. And if anyone have had their fair share of problems with Volvo I have but I would buy another one over a Freightshaker

My biggest nightmare with the Crapcadia was the SAMCAB module, it took a while but the harness was t made for our corrosive winter conditions and the windshield leaked on it and it unfortunately controlled everything. The stereo runs thru it for Pete's sake, why? If any of the connections get corroded the Samcab sees unusual resistance and throws a code, or shuts it down, so the stereo speakers would shut down while going down the road whenever they liked, sometimes when you started it every light would flash like the 4ways were on, drive it for a week, take it to my dealer and he would download 2 full pages of fault codes, I was told I had to live with it. The truck was a 2011, and when I had I I talked to almost every driver with one I came a cross, some had nothing happening with theirs, but a lot had the same horror stories as I did. That's why I offered my opinion to the OP to stay away from a 2011. I'm told Freightliner has installed a plastic hood over the SAMCAB to protect it if the windshield leaks again, I hope it works in yours. This is only a few of the issues I had with the truck, if you had a cross wind at the drivers side door it leaked, if it was winter I drove with my left arm in the sleeve of my parka and the rest of it stuffed between me and the door it was so drafty. 3 different dealers 10 or so trips, they gave up trying, something else I was told I had to live with.
So ffar with the Volvo I have had no major issues, and the 2 minor ones were taken care of at the dealer first time in.

I don't think the entire truck is my concern. Just the engine. Don't get me wrong I'd buy a 780 over a Freightliner in a sec as long as it didn't have the Volvo engine. And maybe they are more reliable now than 6-7 years ago. That's great my concern is that no one other than a Volvo dealer can work on them correctly and cost effectively either due to ignorance or greed.

I have a 780 with a Cummins. It's been awesome. (Other than the headlights, you need good eyes to drive one at night, lol)

This just my opinion but I've driven almost every type of truck in my past 39 years of experience. I can tell you that regardless if it was a Pete, K-Whopper, Mack, International or Freightshaker, the Freightliner was consistantly the easiest shifting truck there was. Just a note of caution though, the Volvo 780 is HEAVY !!! about 22,400 lbs off the assembly line. This kind of restricts the kind of loads you can haul because of the extra weight and could affect your earnings. Just something to consider........

That has to be old info as Cat is rated 3rd, and they havent even made OTR truck engines since 2010, and ALL of their epa 07 engines were complete nightmares, always broke and complete pigs on fuel.

I know for a fact from talking to the mechanics I know at Freightliner and Volvo (a friend is service mgr at freightliner also) that the ISX is the most troublesome engine compared with the DD15 and the Volvo, EGR's and cooler continue to be a problem.

Also,Remember, The SCR stuff was in Europe for a while and when everybody switched to that Volvo had a leg up as they were doing it succesfully for years now.

As I said above, I would not want ANY truck by ANY manufacturer with an EPA 07 engine, nobody had a handle on it and they all had issues, and if I had to chose again, EPA 2010, AND NOT A FIRST YEAR TRUCK, A 2012 AT THE EARLIEST, Volvo D13 or Detroit DD15 IN A CORONADO, would be my choices, NO CRAPCADIAS!!

I dont know anybody with a Paccar engine yet, the dealer braggs about some pretty incredible mileage numbers, and little to no problems, but I would want to wait for a while to see how the longevity is.
