My God!!!!!! All that money, I went to SCC Professional Truck Driver Training course,Lincoln, NE for under $900 and 10 weeks of my time. There were others who had a CDL or had driven before but had come back as a refresher course. Plus, when I graduated, I was a free man, free to interview and choose the companies that fit my interest. We even had a job fair on campus with over a dozen reps from small to large companies
who came to visit with us. Research your options, you owe it to yourself. -
Find a refresher at a college or school.Look into ATS,CFI and tank yanking for Superior Carrier. They might just take you for a test drive then with a trainer. It sounds like you have the type of employment history there looking for. Find the closest terminal and call the Terminal Manager they make the call to hire or not. Best of Luck.

Hey rndixon1960, duh stupid me I just noticed your up the road in Jax. Before making a decision about Prime, look into Raven Transport in Jacksonville. I see their trucks all over the place and really have never heard anything bad about them. I don't know how your situation would fit in but at least if you check them out you may find that down the road they may be a good company to work for. Good luck!

Imagine Raven to be a good company to work for. I worked for Silver Eagle back in 1991, which was a sister company before Silver Eagle was bought out by Arnold Industries. Raven requires 1-yr "recent" OTR experience, which is why I have to either go back through a refresher course or go with a company that has their own in-house training such as Prime. Some companies such as May will hire you with a 40-hr refresher, while others require a 160 hr. course if you have been off the road for 1yr or greater. Prime is allowing me to do a road test then put me out with a trainer for 60k miles, or put me with a CDL trainer if I need help getting back up to speed to complete the road test since I still have my CDL.
Thanks to all for feedback. Merry Christmas!!! -
1) Is your CDL valid?
2) How long did you actually drive commercially? -
Yes, my CDL is still valid. I got my CDL Class A after completing a 8-week course at Bradford-Union Vo-Tech bach in 1991. Only drove commercial for 6-weeks with Silver Eagle in 1991. I left the industry at that time after being offered a lucrative position in finance where I have been for 15.5 years. Returning to trucking since finance company is in process of closing and my position is no longer needed. So my actual experience in commercial trucking is very short, which is why I am actually having to start over basically.
