Just so you know, the ambient sensor is helping prevent global warming! Great job drivers!
Hi everyone, I'm Max Pietsch and I want to give you the latest update on the Ambient Temperature Sensors.
Ambient temperature sensor technology is critically important in our commitment to deliver competitive, low-cost solutions to our customers. The trucking industry continues to be very competitive and our current MPG performance across the fleet is an area for improved opportunity. The implementation of this technology also allows us to stay in front of increasing environmental regulations as more states pass no-idle laws. This approach reduces greenhouse gas emissions and is consistent with our long term goal of investing in technology that supports our business objectives to include environmental considerations and social responsibilities.
Through your continued feedback on the performance of the ambient temperature sensor along with testing of our own, we have identified exhaust heat as having an adverse affect on the performance of the sensor. This is occurring primarily with the newer Freightliner Cascadia tractors that are equipped with the horizontal, low exhaust.
We have also discovered an unrelated issue pertaining to late model 2012 and 2013 Freightliners with Espar cab heaters. A maintenance service bulletin has been issued to resolve this item. The repairs will insure your cab heater will not prematurely shut down before the normal 10 hour timer.
The Espar and Webasto cab heaters will provide ample heating in winter for driver comfort without idling the tractor to well below 20 degrees. If you are having problems with your cab heater please discuss the appropriate steps to get it inspected and repaired with your DBL. So far this winter, we have seen a decline in cold weather service calls and the need for jumpstarts to our tractors since installing the ambient temperature sensor. We will continue to look at options to provide more battery power for CPAP units and collaborate with Freightliner to determine the best approach to maximize the optimal functionality of the ambient temperature sensor. -

Mr. Pietsch intended to reassure and mollify with his post, but he acomplished lowering my opinion of the company's respect for employees.HeartHooves and Coolbreeze Thank this. -

Sounds like a bunch of corporate hooha to me too. Lets be honest here, Matt....the real reason for this ambient sensor is the bottom line on a balance sheet. I have a problem getting all warm and fuzzy about global warming prevention. Its a load of intestinal refuse (I really like that description). Ambient sensors are a very good example of being penny wise and dollar foolish. They are not working and the drivers are suffering for it. The company should have put their money on APU's....their efficiency has been more than proven. The maintenance on them is minimal. They may cost more on the front end, but in the long run, make much more sense than this debacle. Why make the drivers the guinea pig? They already cannot have power inverters with enough wattage to run the things that could make life on the road more affordable, and now the company wants to tell when the temperature will and will not be comfortable? SNI is a good company but its going down hill fast.

Ambient Sensors was the final straw for me, after sitting 18 hours in Canada waiting for the Night/Weekend Crew to get me cleared to cross the Border, get back in the U.S. and my DBL informed me that my Truck was next for the Sensor,,,,,,, goodbye!

I don't know what is more humorous. Max Pietsch's ridiculous comments or the clown that actually thought my post was serious.
