Need some trucking school advice please!!!

You'll get horror stories and success stories about every company out there. You pretty much have to look at all the avenues and settle for what best fits your situation. I tried the community college route but got the run around with the VA considering my gi bill benefits. I checked out CR England and that is one company to run away from, I couldn't find any positive feed back anywhere. A lot of the big companies are going with hair drug testing also so make sure you're clean, don't want to waste a trip to school and end up out in the cold. I finally had to bite the bullet and go with Swift. They have a veterans scholarship where I don't have as much out of pocket cost up front. Like I said though, there are stories from both sides of the fence. Extensive research is my advice.

 

Also hound your recruiter every chance you get. I keep finding out new things every time I cross something off the list. It's like one step forward, two steps back sometimes.

 

Try and find a community college within a short commute of your area that offers CDL classes. You usually will get better instruction and more one on one training there. They most times have a job placement option too. You may also qualify for some help with grants or student loans. Do some research of what is offered in your area. Good Luck!

 

Check your county programs. My county will pay for the school if your finances qualify because it is a very needed job.

 

call roadmaster they have one in columbus. i called them like 2 maybe 3 weeks ago and have been in contact almost everyday by an employee there. you getting income tax this year? i filed mine and they said i can start school before i get the money just have to pay 2500 before i graduate since my credit sucks. the 2500 is to over ride the credit stuff and you get accepted and once you get hired with a company you start paying the rest off. total cost of school is 6,495 but with the right company they will pay most if not all of that. i look at it as im get some of my 2500 back in the long run. call them in the morning and you will probably be in school by monday february 4th. i start monday in columbus, ohio. good luck and hope this story i wrote wasnt too jumpy. inbox me if you have any questions.

 

after about 6 months or heckiing and reading i decided to go with millis transfer. i believe they have a school in trenton ohio. read the threads about them. not many bad things said.

Ed, not trying to muddy the water, I went with TDI/CDI here in tn. You might look into them. If you are unemployed they give some breaks. Also if you pay cash they will give you a break. I can't speak for other schools locations, but our instructors cared about us. Of course we had to cull out the turds first. Good luck.
