I heard this from a flatbed driver one time but never really knew if it was true. Do drivers have to put a deposit down on this stuff when they start a new company?

No. Company pays for all that. You're just there to transport the load, chain and tarp it, etc.

Never heard of one yet that would make a driver pay for equipment for the truck

No, but you should attempt to care for the equipment your given. They may not be inclined to keep you around otherwise!

Just the other day someone was saying one of the bigger companies gives you the first hundred bungees then you're responsible after that. I can't remember which one though

Some do, some don't. Some companies have learned that when they provide all the stuff, it mysteriously disappears. Then, they decide that instead of eating the costs of replacing the equipment for 1/2 the fleet on a yearly basis, they either have the drivers put down a deposit, or buy their own equipment. Prime is one such company.

    MJ1657 Thanks this.

The cost of these items you're looking at least $2000 per truck so I wouldn't blame a company for refusing to replace neglected/damaged equipment that is not normal wear and tear.

depends if your O/O or company driver. But some of these companys will have you sign a form saying if you lose the equipment or dont take care of it,they can charge you for it.Just make sure you got the equipment locked up so it doesnt walk away if your a company driver and had to sign for it.10-4 :)

bungees should be a replaceable item. as they don't last very long anyways.

i'm thinking i've bought over 300 bungees last year. but the last said must be better quality or something. cuz it's been 5 months since i last bought

I am new to the site, but I did drive flatbed a few years back. I did not have to pay for anything initially. I don't know how it is if you lose or break anything.
