I recommend a good refrigerated company such as FFE or Stevens Transport. Roehl is good also if you're in the area for refrigerated; they have a Texas terminal. You should get more miles with refrigerated vs. dry van.

STAY AWAY FROM FFE!!! I was with them for 5 months and the training was awful, the help I needed while was on the road with a trainer was pitiful at best, the first truck I received from was horrible, I had the truck 4 weeks, and I had it in the shop 5 different times for 5 different problems. I had to yell and scream to get another truck. If Sam the person who issues out the trucks would actually do his job by personally inspecting and driving the trucks BEFORE he issues them, then he would find out what trucks are bad and take them out of the fleet. The training department at FFE is worse than worse. I had a major bad tooth ache and the only thing they said was go to Wal-mart and get some meds to take care of it til you can get home. That's another thing-getting home? That is a laugh. I had to threaten them with going to safety because I was running out of my pills and they would not get me home. Be warned also going through FFE's so called driving academy for two weeks you are on your own for meals. The only thing they pay for is your room and sometimes you have share the room with 5 other people-unless you are a female then you get to stay at the motel. That is favoritism and discrimination against males. There is more that I could tell you against FFE but let me tell you this. I drove for them way back in 1997, for 8 months I was with them they were the very epitome of a perfect company. They called me by name-not a truck number, They asked me if I wanted to go home every couple of weeks, the equipment was the picture of Awesomeness, the shippers, receivers, and co-workers were a pleasure to work with. I loved it-the reason I had to leave is coz my Mom and Brother were in a bad car accident and I had to go to Reno, to help them. The past when I worked for FFE is the deciding factor that made me go back to them. My question is What the hell happened between 1997 and now? FFE changed and NOT for the better. STAY AWAY-STAY FAR AWAY!!!

My experience with FFE: After 10 years out service from the trucking industry, I had to do a refresher course just to get back into trucking. Boy I should have done my homework when it came to picking a company to do the refresher course. FFE from get go one has been a living nightmare. 1st thing they brought me to Dallas 3 days early for orientation, then 2nd of all their dorm rooms looked like jail cells nothing like posted on their web site. I do give a plus to my trainer I had to go with part of the refresher course. I just got lucky!! And got a good trainer and got my own truck in 3 ½ weeks. Most trainers at FFE use a driver that is refreshing and has had driving experience before for the full six weeks of OTR road training. You know the money thing! Now the big kicker! Out of 4 months driving I have had only 1 week with over 2000 miles. 29cpm is very low pay these days for 1st year driving. I have spent more time waiting on loads upwards to 1 ½ days to 3 days plus very long delays getting unloaded. Biggest burn is when you get a good pre plan load 9 out of 10 times its canceled and given to a Driver trainer / Owner operator or Lease driver. Company drivers get all the left overs scents company drivers are on forced dispatch where others are not. Don't take much of a brain to do the math 29cpm x 2000 miles = 580.00 minus travel advances of 160.00 per week and your taxes?? You make less than minimum wage on a 70 hour week. So if you want to get screwed give FFE a call.

Where do you live?? Community colleges all over the state will train you for free. FFE has always been a rat outfit. Were in the 80s and not much has changed. Swift not as bad but still a mega company. Millis is good outfit. If you go with FFE make sure and get concealed carry permit 1st. LOL real nice part of FTW they expect you to stay and train in.

ATDS in Waco, TX actually Elm Mott, TX is outstanding. They accept WIA and VA as well. I just graduated from their program in January. They will be sure you know what your doing or they will not graduate you. They are a PTDI certified school which will open up more options post graduation. Try looking at Crete and Werner as well. Let me know if you need their contact info.

i have been with ffe for a year i am an owner operater so that might be the difference if the guy says he only got 2000 miles a week once he must not been much of a driver my worst week was 2400 miles and i average 3200 when i am out the whole week i split my hometime useually between pay periods i did take 6 days off at christmas and the one pay period had 1800 miles and 2500 the next still good considering a week off , the thing with ffe and a lot of companys you have to do your job be where your supposed to be when your supposed to be there and they will run you my average trip is around 1200 miles and do very little waiting around , what limits my miles is the 70 hr rule not the company ''' the school is top notch and i do know some of the trainers may not be the best but its no problem to switch trainers . and if your truck is in the shop like that they will give you another one but you have to ask , i had my truck in the shop overnight and got a loaner and went to laredo and back an extra 800 miles i guess it would have been easier to sit around and whine about how i wasnt making anu money --- so if you need somebody to hold your hand and tell you everything to do then they might not be for you go to swift get your 25 cents a mile flip it on a ramp and go back to mcdonalds
