I would like the honourable members ideas on the carriers mentioned in the topicname.
I'm Dutch, 53, and after two demotivating experiences again searching for the Right Employer...if such exists...
Plan to come to Canada on a TWP, to see if i like the country. Prefer to go West, like long- haul but open to anything new. Like the rough country- life, physically fit despite my age, not a very technical man. Enjoy life on the road. Do not, I repeat not, search for the obvious underpaid- immigrantjob, but look for a place where in return for hard work I can get some respect- and decent money.
Running into the wilderniss- fine. Running towards the Mexican border- fine. No strings, not too fond of too many rules ( I'm from Europe, remember? Had my share here).
The above- mentioned companies are my shortlist so far. Any additions would be greatly appreciated, whether they have LMO's or not. ( I could be the reason for them to apply for one). Any suggestions leading to The Job will be rewarded with a case of your favo drink.
Thanks for the help.

I can only speak with having met a few CAT drivers that happened to be at the same pick up as I: you know, you can sometimes get a load of blarney, and sometimes get the truth about the folks a man works for. I felt I got the truth from the fellow who worked for CAT; he told me he worked for them quite a few years, he told me they were fair and that he was getting paid to secure his load (blocking and bracing) while I wasn't. He seemed pretty relaxed and friendly, and even spent a few minutes teaching a newbie from another company (me) how to properly block and brace his load. That did leave me with a very good impression about that company. If I wanted to sign on with a highway company again I would be sending CAT my application. PS no reward requested

Rockport, based out of saskatchewan? Bad choice very bad choice. I believe last I heard they are down to about 15 trucks, this was a company that had over 50 2 years ago. Poor management, unskilled and dishonest company, from ownership right down to dispatch and payroll. Strictly company based trucks now, since all o/o's left due to going broke or #### near. Then when O/O's are down and out and on the verge of bankruptcy, they will offer to put you in a company truck. Hows that for an alternative.

Yea I was gonna say that Rockport is a pretty crooked outfit that I would never wanna set foot in their yard for anything. I have hauled a couple loads for em (farmed out to our carrier) from their dock to Edmonton, and just being there for half an hour you automatically get a shady feeling about the place haha...

Now you've got our attention !!

There's a reason carriers have to go half way around the world to hire unskilled truck drivers>It's because they have run out of Canadians that will work for them!
This isn't rocket science or brain surery, it's driving a truck and Canadian fleets don't need to import truck driver from half way around the world BUT if they do there must be a reason. -

Yeah Yeah Yeah - we've been thru all that ............... This chaps talking a case of your favorite poison !!!!! If he can deliver ............

That is signature material...it needs to be seen!!!
This forum has almost as many requests if not more for from foreigners around the world wanting to come here and support these bottom feeding carriers by working for them as it does actual Canadians looking for honest info...
We need to stop encouraging this....and stop replying/providing info to the foreigners looking to come over and feed the bottom which only keeps the rates down for the rest of the industry.ralph Thanks this. -
I realize that I may be a bit "brash" some days BUT figure it out people! There's a reason bottom feeders need to go half way around the world to source truck drivers...and it ain't 'cause there's a shortage of them.
The only shortage in the industry is the shortage of good paying jobs and good palces to show up to and work for! -
Look in to Watt & Stewart in Claresholm, Alberta. They have LMO's and do flatdeck across North America. Check out the blog from a British driver who had a very public run in with H&R and ended up with Watt & Stewart and really enjoyed his time there.
ETA: In spite of what others have said above re: immigrant drivers, my parents immigrated from Holland as did everyone else here, so unless you're Native you're an immigrant too. As far as I know Watt & Stewart are not bottom feeders.
