Im buying a truck and was looking to lease on with a company. The company im considering says they pay 72% but they never say how much that actually is in a dollar amount. I know it will not always be the same but a average would be nice to know. Do most companys not take loads for less than say $2 a mile? I mean 72% of cheap freight is still cheap freight.

Ask them for their average per mile, load, etc... Our company pays 75% and our O/O are doing well. Therefore we will be loooking more into it soon.

depending on the freight, they should be able to give you an average.
Only thing is when there are lots of different trailers involved like in specialized. 2 axle step, 2 axle RGN, 3 axle RGN, etc etc etc. Bigger trailer gets paid more, but even then they should be able to tell you the average for a given size trailer.

It all depends if they are going to guarantee a good rate or at least an average.
I drove for a company that paid me 25%. Little did I know their average rate was about $1.50 per miles. That job sucked.
Now I am working for a Mercer contractor making 30% on a 1099, but I run the truck like I own it.
