Sleeping on the truck for the first time with an APU

I sleep best with the APU and reefer running.

 

I just can't imagine being confined with someone else in here that I wasn't sleeping with, even then I'm not sure how long that would last. NFW!

That said, when in truck I sleep better with engine running than without.

 

What you mean you can't sleep when the truck is moving. Some of my deepest sleep has been when the truck is moving. Those darn rumble strips and air horns woke me up though

 

Same here, I sleep really well in the truck .

 

Good advise but hey if noise shouldn't be an issue. If it's loud at the truckstop or rest area put in a set of ear plugs or a pair of ear muffs. Then again don't bother me much I idle when it's cold or hot so I'm used to the noise. I'll freeze to death or die of dehydration one night when all the morons at the EPA, State Offices, etc. Decide to deal with the same conditions until then my truck idles when it has too to keep me comfortable. Guess they didn't think about the hazards of all the tired truckers that weren't allowed to sleep comfortably when they made the anti idle laws. Nor did they think about the O/O's that couldn't afford to put an APU on their truck because they're so expensive, and they're trying to squeeze every pound of payload they can out of their truck.

 

Some of the best sleep I have ever gotten was in my truck! Your body isn't used to the lifestyle quite yet and sleeping odd hours day and night and after 11 hours of driving straight, yes you will sleep hard! Enjoy it! Sleep hard whenever possible!

 

Well, you could always invite them into your bunk to sleep with you.

 

I don't think I will have any problems once I get out there.

Back when I was on the USS John F. Kennedy our berthing was right under the number 1 catapult.
Try sleeping with those Jets taking off every 45 secs to 1 min.

That brings back memories.

I once took a tiger cruise with my brother from Hawaii to San Diego on the U.S.S. Constellation carrier (C.V. 64).
We were also near the catapult. The KA part in your description should be a bit longer, as I remember it. About 2-3 seconds to accelerate the plane/jet before that final BOOM.

He was a signalman, so I spent much of the time on the bridge.
It was one of the most interesting, and fun, times of my life.

I remember being in the anchor room. I followed the anchor chain and looked down, and got dizzy from both the height and the waves crashing against the bow. It's like, what, 12 stories?
I almost lost my camera as I held it out and down to get the image on film.

I was wandering the corridors one day and went out a hatch, and I found myself at head level with the flight deck. I was just at dusk, the lighting was perfect, and I always had my camera at the ready.
At that moment a helicopter was readying to take off, the flagman just off to the side - and I captured one of those shots that simply could not have been planned to such perfection.
I was later informed by my brother that I had been in a restricted area and should not have been out there. Oh well, LOL. Didn't see any signs.

And I had never realized just how black a blue ocean could look, until we got to the deep sea.

Thanks for reminding me. I hadn't thought of it for a very long time.
