I own a company spec'd 387. It has nine gauges. I want to add the remainder of the full 16 gauge package. Is the wiring for these gauges already in my truck and all I have to do is connect the gauge at one end and install a sensor in the other end?

It is a 2005 with a Cat. engine. I do not know what the term "Multi-plexed" means.

You don't have Namux gauges (multi-plexed), so you need gauges, sensors and wiring. I cannot tell you if all the wiring is there, but Peterbuilt does sell the harnesses if it isn't. Most of the time, the wires are in the main harness (for factory options), but you'll need a jumper harness that will connect the sensor to the main harness. Your best bet is to call a dealership and have the parts guys look up what you need.

Peterbuilt started using the Namux gauge system in 06, which is are multi-plexed. You can still add gauges and plug them using a data link jumper, but they will not work until you set the parameters for them. The simplest way I can describe multi-plexed wiring is computers. A keyboard, for example, can have over 100 keys, buttons, indicator lights, etc. All that works through 1 little USB plug with 4 contacts.

We just added a low coolant sensor to a 2007 that did not have it from the factory. The light was in the cluster already, so we had to buy a small jumper harness and sending unit to install in the coolant tank. Ours is multi-plexed, so I had to hook up with Paccar ESA and enable the low coolant warning light parameter. It was quite simple, but if we didn't have the program, we would have had to pay a dealer.

    terrylamar Thanks this.
