You guys all know how they make the chili at wendys??? They use the old hamburger pattys from the day b4 to make it. So if you get a little rumbly in the tummy then you know why. I know in the resturant bussinerss the water has to be over 100 degrees tom wash your hands. that is in the state of waqshingtion also.

Wendys new "promo" is fresh burgers daily. They get fresh meat daily, thats why they use old burgers. the chili can come in a bag, and all you have to do is heat it up then add meat

CHICKEN...
First time for me...Boy Scout Camp...cause...Chicken Pot Pie. Thought I was going to die.
Second time for me...Whataburger...cause...Chicken Wrap. Much older here...fever...chills...hallucinations. I was in the truck on the way to Denver from Dallas...made it as far as Wichita Falls before it hit...about 2 hours drive. I wasn't fully over this one for 72 hours...I could drive after 36 hours.
Third time for me...Hot Dog at a Petro...They use Chicken to make Hot Dogs. Wasn't as bad this time...but I finally learned my lesson about fast truck stop food made with chicken.
Bottom line here guys and gals...AVOID CHICKEN like the plague when you're on the road.
I'm not saying that you won't get food poisoning from other foods....but chicken or other poultry foods are the worst of the offenders. -
Ok... time for me to weigh in on this topic. Chicken, or any other food for that matter, is not the root cause. The *temperature* that the food is cooked to, stored at and how the food is handled after it is cooked is the root cause.
Chicken, however, is like a salmonella luxury hotel--it must be cooked to 180 degrees and kept hotter than 140 degrees after cooking in order to keep the bacteria from re-establishing itself. How many times have you burned your mouth on truckstop chicken? Never, I'll bet.
Also, take into account the less than sanitary conditions in... and I know I'm going out on a limb here... ALL restaurants. Even if the food is cooked to the proper temperature, and stored at the proper temperature--the person who handled the raw uncooked product to put it in the fryer, is probably the same one who gets your order for you... and maybe even handles money--YUCK!
Now think about how long it might be before you actually eat that chicken. I know some people that'll eat stuff like that even when it's been sitting out all day.And sometimes don't even get sick! Like the other poster said about 'giving the immune system a workout', I think this is because they probably always had a low level of exposure and now they have the proverbial "Gut like a buzzard"--immune to moderate levels of nasty bugs.
The bottom line... unless you got a gut like a buzzard. Stay away from food you haven't cooked yourself. -
So is there any reason (assuming you have one in the truck) you would not get a meal "to go" and then give it
a minute or two in the microwave to re-heat it back up to a safe temperature? -
I got food poisoning once, I did not move for almost 48 hours, thought I was dying.
I've driven with the flue. It's not fun, it's not easy. If I had been pulled in by the DOT, I would have been shut down for sure.
I simply drove untill I could not...sleep for as long as needed, drive again until I could not.
Actual time under the wheel was about 3-4 hours per shift.
We do whatever we have to, when we get sick.
