I bought a 2007 Melton T600 Truck, C-15, 435, 13 speed, 3.33 gears engine has been good as far as working, no oil usage, been chaning oil at 18 to 20 thousand, getting oil anylasis done and it is showing good reading on all aspects.

I had a 03 W900L Daycab, C 15 Bridge motor, geared 3.76, pulling logs, and FB, both heavy loads, avg 6.0 to 6.5 mpg, running 70 on interstate.

With my current truck, it avg 5.2 to 5.6 mpg, driving 63 to 65 on Interstate, hauling close to 80 most of the time, with a covered wagon.

I have thought about getting the hp turned up, but most people say it would not help and could possible hurt the fuel mileage.

I have heard people say you have to know how to drive the acert engines to get the best mpg out of them, and I have not figured this out yet, but would appreciate any advice and suggestions on how to get better mpg.

I have not changed anything on it since I bought it other than the fluids in all my boxes, and have changed out the air filter twice since I bought it.

Keep your rpm down (1100-1500) your cruise rpm should be in the 1200-1300 range. Make absolutely sure all of your mechanicals are in order. You didn't say how many miles are on it, but make sure you don't have any boost leaks (you will be amazed,I was) make sure the overhead is set correctly, not just close enough, don't let anyone "back the VVA's off". Keep Caterpiller out of the ECM, contact/PM Mr. Haney (on this forum) to reflash your ECM.

We have a bunch of c15 accerts and our mechanic keeps telling us to run them higher should cruise at 1350-1400 and lug a hill no less than that and since I started running mine a bit higher my fuel mileage went up just a hair.

Mr. Haney, please contact me if you see this. I have a '05 Acert. For the last two months, it has averaged 3.6 mpg. We have driven it every way we can think of and then some. Had overhead ran by Les Lowe in Amarillo, who came highly recommended after improving a friend's Acert. We haul feed and are loaded about 80k or so outbound and return empty most of the time. None of our three trucks gets good mileage, but this one is the worst by far. It has to come up in economy, or find a new home. The only good news is, there is a lot of room for improvement. I think any type of reprogramming may be helpful, but your reputation on this site makes me confident you will recommend what is best. Thanks for all the great advise.
