Any old timers out there ever had success dusting the intake with Bon-Ami to deglaze cylinders on a rebuilt motor that wasn't broke in properly?

Have done this many times!!! Start and run engine to operating temp. Remove air cleaner element and scoop table spoon of Bon Ami, Run engine at 3/4 revs and SLOWLY sprinkle Bon Ami bit by bit into intake. Your engine will labour. Dont let the engine stall while doing this! Revs will eventually increase again and repeat until finished. Change oil and hey presto no more smoke or blow by!

apparently Cat used to have a part number for the stuff, for seating rings on an engine. Get it up to temp, Run at half throttle, then slowly introduce a tablespoon of Bon Ami in the intake. Supposed to remove glaze, seat rings and presto, no more oil slobber. I've looked all over the web on this and theres quite alot of old timers that swear by it. Mind you my 3406 is an industrial motor 1976 vintage. I don't think I'd try it on a newer engine with the tighter tolerances.
