First chance I get I am going to look at both links. To be blunt, those tiles are just in the way- especially since I am used to working off the desktop or the file tree when neccesary. Other then that, don't see a whole lot of difference between 7 and 8 but I am not so atuned to the secert life of Windows like you two software geek types are. Came with the new laptop so I suppose I better start figuring it out. One thing for for sure, the administrator rights fiasco is back...... hate that little slice of ingenuity.

You ought to see me with a Mac...argggg... But, I agree with you... if not a touch screen for the full power of Win8, then they should have an option to set the screens to WinX screens.
CondoCruiser Thanks this. -
Have absoutly zero experience with a Mac. The last Apple I owned was a IIe. I thought about getting one but at the time just had too much PC software so never boarded that wagon.
Problem with these windows engineers is that they must think we consumers are cookie-cutter people, eithor A or B and don't seem to take into consideration the wide swaythe of experience we consumers have. It's okay to design a fire and forget o/s I suppose but they really should consider those of us that want a little more positive control. I may not be a software engineer but I'm not exactly ignorent eithor- so give me at least some leeway in how I want my stuff to work and run. It's mine, I paid for it and the hardware it runs on..... so give me a break.

Took the oppertunity last night to look at both links ( thank you) and since basically both ended up a CNet, did some of my own looking around and ended downloading and installing a small program which brought back the desktop and added a start button and all that- just like on Windows 7. It did not remove any of that edge stuff or the corners. One can still use Metro if one wants to. Gonna play with this a while- see how it works. I'll post the file name tonight if I remember in case anyone else is interested.
I should have been smart enough to go to Cnet first anyway.....ah well.

Also, did you have any troubles with any older software not working afterward that was already on your computer? Or maybe you did a fresh load and didn't retain anything.
Thanks. -
I'm interested in the feedback but I'm too chicken to try it. If it ain't broke don't fix it!
I see it as a push towards tablets and social media. Some of us still like desktops and laptops which function fine on Windows 7. There will be another operating system out in 2-3 years. I'll wait for that one. It'll be time for a new computer about then. -

I'll post the link but can't give you a good comparison for performance since the o/s came with the biggest baddest laptop Best Buy had when I went in there last week to get just that. Asus Gv7 As71 or 81. Anyway, it outclasses everthing else I have by a wide margin.

Vista is the newest I have. It took a long time to be sure that the tax programs I used would be compatible with it. I have not even considered Windows 7 yet.
