PM sent 2 tone. Give me a shout.
so lets see fellas. This weeks revenue total. 1100 miles. 4k plus. Then bounced 120 miles for a load that paid 1180 for 908 loaded miles. I empty out this morning in a few hours. Not bad for 5 days of work. And if I had gotten my head out of my butt I would have picked this up Tuesday and delivered weds. Making it a 4 day adventure. Averages 2.34 for ALL miles. Not too mention the extra 335 for throwing some freight. Not a bad round. Truck averages 1k per day. And I was gone just a few hours shy of 5 days. Not bad for early feb.scottied67 Thanks this. -
The first thing I look at is their mc number. I use carrier411. I look for how long they have done business their scores and if they have any reports against them. Then I talk with them to get a fell for how dependable they are. If they sound legit I put them on a load. If they do what they say they will do and are upfront and honest then I will keep using them as much as I can. But if they lie or don't do a good job like being late and telling me eight different reasons why then I stop using them. I am not hard to get a long with I hope that helps

I just wanted to show you guys that its not always the broker that is low balling. Below is a company that I cold called to get freight. Just look at these rates. This is the shippers rate to the broker not the broker to the truck. I DO NOT or WILL NOT haul anything for them on principle alone.

All Lumber loads are like that and 48,000lbs with 6 or 8' drops.. Don't call on lumber loads if you think they pay great.. When I first started in this business everyone said just call on lumber loads and you will get some quick customers that way, they were right got all kinds of them and they were all cheap loads maxed out on weight with full tarps. Had more customers and loads than I could move and get trucks for. Found out real quick why that was is cuz nobody else could get them moved so they gave those loads to anyone that would call but nobody would haul them was why I had so many. I think it was 1 out of 30 calls I got I would get a truck to haul one. I learned real quick and figured out with this job it is harder to get the good freight that pays well to where myself and the truck is happy and the customer. That is how I like it and do things now days. All the cheap freight is give you a bad name and you lose more trucks than you get loads so on comes the next broker when you go broke.
I'm not saying I don't have cheap loads as we all do, but my cheap loads are in areas where freight is what is and carriers know that as well. All I'm saying is all lumber loads are the cheapest loads out there, doesn't matter where they are they are all the same..
Customers get them moved though cuz all the new brokers call on lumber loads to start out with trying to get a few loads to move and work their way into some better freightVisionLogistics Thanks this. -
These loads go straight to my junk file
UTI TRANSPORT Thanks this. -
UTI,
It isn't just lumber loads now, all shippers research now, and they all try and keep their costs down, they aren't going to pay a broker $5 a mile if the lane is historically $4 a mile, it's the economy now. Any company will research to keep their costs down and fire anyone who makes a ####### decision that raises their cost, REGARDLESS of if they can get their product transported. If a lane pays $3 a mile, that is what they will pay, it's that simple.
Now some lanes will pay $5, and you will get the broker who will offer it for $1.50 etc, that does happen as well, but those brokers lose customers as it's hard to explain why everyone else's freight is moving but theirs. -
I have actually dealt with UTI before. Believe it or not I pulled a load of cement blocks in my reefer. They were very fair on the rate. They didn't come close to 10% off the top. I know this because I knwo teh shipper. And I haul for that shipper quite a bit. So as I have said many many times before. The shipper pretty much sets the rate. Its up to the broker to try and make money off of it.
UTI TRANSPORT Thanks this. -
sjmay - I was just saying that meaning ALL LUMBER loads are cheap heavy and want full tarps.. No it's not just Lumber loads right now it is everything, but Lumber loads are the worse and always have been. There is still freight out there that guys can make the numbers work it just takes more time and a lot more phone calls to find the freight or load that will work for you. Everyone and everything is taking a beating right now and have been for a long time..
