This week I watched 2 weiner men get into trouble...sort of and it makes me wonder....... just what quality of driver are they hiring / training????
The first one : He was trying to handle a sweeping 90 deg turn into an intersection, he did fine with the tractor but took out a yield sign and squashed something else that squirted liquid everywhere with the trailer. The yield sign was toast, he laid the post down and ran it over, you know, insult to injury stuff and I have no idea what sprayed all over the trailer. Just kept going....all good! Had no idea.
The second one was at the Cat scale...I had just done my thing and was doing a d/h reweigh beside the scale when he rolled in....... hammer down and fan screaming. Well he missed the scale on one side ( off center ) and i get that...maybe tired, pissed , who knows....anyway he backs up and is just torquing the sheet out of that Prostar......and he tries again but overshoots the end ...uhm ok so I keep watching. Well the driver keeps man handling the Prostar and the cab keeps torquing left and right...just whooping the sheet out of it and he finally gets on...ok fine.
The funny part here is I see him inside....and another guy is knawing his arse, just chomping on it....it's the co-driver! He was in the bunk for all that torquing this guy was doing . Likely thru him on the floor spiking the brakes.
No kidding........

Keep that CDL Mill turning. New drivers are a dime-a-dozen. I just hope they stay away from me.

I started training on weds, only several hours experience from trucking school, trainer said, you got it I'm going to sleep! Umm hey buddy, don't you think you should do the job of "train". He didnt believe in that, just sleep and cell phone! As soon as we delivered the load 2 days later in Florida I got out of the truck.
Giggles the Original, aiwiron and Bigdubber Thank this. -
I can't agree with you guys more, I think these New drivers should not be running as teams with their trainer, just in my account we had 3 preventables including one who's trailer axle ended up in the hood of a car while turning. I think all New drivers should start as otr drivers and work their way down to dedicated once they master close quarters drive. And also be better paid to have some motivation to care about their job
spunkymonkey Thanks this. -
The message over the Werner qualcomm lately has been "Lower CSA Scores, please make safe decisions." It seems that there are several drivers who are acting stupid Chalupa, I do hope the problem gets fixed. People really need to think about what they're doing, and learn to relax -- then they'll actually stop and report it if they have ran over a sign, etc.. The thing is usually even if you got fired for something like that, I would like to think that someone else could hire you. I guess it just depends on what type of behavior or accident it was, but that is one of the reasons why I got a CDL -- so I could always have some form of a job.

Its not just trucking, it's everywhere. People just do not care anymore. There is no integrity, responsibility, accountability, etc. People just do what they want, when they want, and how they want. And nobody is gonna tell or show them different.
-
Which is a serious problem. BUT with that said, it just makes us new guys with a work ethic, integrity, compassion, initiative, skills, and intelligence look that much better. I don't work for Werner but you get the idea.

If it was me and I was planning on getting out of the truck I would have driven a few hundred miles in the wrong direction before stopping .
-
You might look better but you get paid the same .

And your point is? I'm not going to be shamed into not being a professional simply because others aren't. And if you are that short sighted to not see the benefits of being a professional I guess our conversation stops right here.
