We will be relocating to Southern VT within six months. I am trying to do a little homework on what my job prospects may be........

Would like to work for an LTL/Freight company as a full time day driver - I can do P&D and/or Linehaul, but no night linehaul due to family reasons.
I am interested in driving for a company such as FedEx Freight or Conway. Also may be open to a Union gig, but no 3rd shift.

    Is this realistic?

A little about myself... 25 years old, been driving tractor-trailer on and off for 4 years, very clean record, have had hazmat in the past & could re-obtain. Also have my doubles endorsement but not much actual experience with them.

    Driving experience

Currently, one month in to a casual job running local/regional work for an OTR company, mostly Truckload, some LTL. Also still qualified with FXG.

3 months as full-time (peak) driver for FedEx Ground Contractor (Local Linehaul + P&D)
1 year as very part-time driver for same FedEx Ground Contractor (Local Linehaul + P&D)
4 months of OTR - most of my loads had 10-20+ stops mostly New England.
8 months P&D city driver also running statewide in WI

    THANKS FOR READING!

Starting out at a new LTL company is going to be hard to request what shift you want IMO... Need to put in your time before you can be too picky.

Yes I agree, but wouldn't it also depend on their needs at that particular location?

Was just trying to ask around a little before making some calls.

if you need health insurance, don't bother with Land Air Express of NE. pay won't be bad, but the equipment sucks, and the health insurance went from bad to nonexistant, since its now an hsa with a HUGE deductable.

New Penn, YRC, and ABF should have yards in the area, give them a look. good health insurance for free, and good wages.

Thanks, I appreciate the info. I will be sure to look into those companies. Those are all unionized, right? What kind of difference does that make?

Here are the other companies I have bookmarked...
FXF (don't know if my experience with FXG would be of any benefit?)
    Conway
    Estes
    NEMF
    UPSF

since you don't have a lot of experience, I would get in WHEREVER, even Central Transport if you have to. and then get 6 months in, and start putting in applications at ABF, UPSF, YRC, and NP.

Good deal. Thanks a lot for the advice.

I have personally heard mixed things about FXF, mostly good, but don't know how much graveyard dock work I'm willing to put in to get a real job.

I think like many of these larger companies, things may vary quite a bit from terminal to terminal.

things vary more at non union shops, Central Transport will pay a guy in Buffalo 16 dollars an hour on straight time, but the same job in NJ pays 23, with OT. wtf?
