New, near new, used, or really used Ive been looking at all the trucks.
The new scare me with the depreciation off the lot, the really used scare me with how far they can make it off the lot without needing potentially very expensive repairs.
2-3 years old with lots of warranty is what I prefer. I cant afford a Pete or KW, leaving me in the budget of Freightliners and Internationals.
With this balance in mind is this a good truck to drag a step deck with? 4K more and they have the same truck, 475 kitty powered.
To me its more about longevity and efficiency bringing the 5 year operational expenses as low as possible.
Rear end is to tall/short? Motor to big/small?
The power train warranty being the constant, what spec(S) would you change in the name of economics and efficient compromise to put the most cash in your pocket 5 years from now?

That sounds like a fair price for that truck. Then again I have never owned a freightshaker or a mercedes motor either.
In all honesty, I see that as a good money maker for a few years, with little worry on repairs, certainly nothing major at least. $55K for a 2.5 year old truck with 250,000 miles and 70,000 on the motor is pretty decent.
The cons are that when you go to sell it, you will be one of a million guys who is trying to sell a freightliner. Plus it will be worth FAR less than anything in Pete or KW in the same model years/same specs.
This is the one?

You are right when ya say there is good and bad with NEW (high payments + mucho depreciation fast) as well as good bad with heavily used (constant money pit with repairs)....I say you've found a decent rig, at least with what we know on the surface. Good luck! -
One more thing - If it were me, I'd call the dealer and ask them if they'd take $50,000. Dead serious.
Not that the $55K price is bad mind you, but personaly I always will lowball on trucks I am interested in buying. It does not hurt to ask.
Also, I will always negociate a free DOT inspection as a contingency to sale.
What other trucks might you have your eye on? This is fun. I've been browsing truck paper site as of late. Just bought a truck myself.
Also, do know the above is just my opinion, nuttin more. Hope to have helped. -
that's the exact kind of feedback I was hoping for...
not because you said it was an ok truck, but because you were logical in your comments. btw yes that's the exact photo... you have been browsing...
and... No I wouldn't ever give them what they were asking... asking is negotiable in my book...hit them for 5k off and if need be settle for less with "free/discountd" services or good pricing on a headache rack....
anything but paying full price.
I'm not seriously in the market right now, just trying to get my head clear and on straight for spring. I'm rough guessing end of first quarter there might be alot of good trucks on the market... and it'll be to late to ask opinions on efficiency or anything else at that time. -

The more I look at that truck, the more I like it...
*and*
The more I think that if it had a Cat or a Cummins, the more sure I would be of this rig. -
I'll tell you that mercedes motor will cost a fortune. Even the oil filter are expensive. Call another dealership and ask them about prices for servicing a mercedes. The one I drove also went through a full set of injectors in two installments within gthe first 150k miles. Not cheap either.
I doliek the motor, seemed a bit underpowered but it has a nice flat torque curve. Just had problems with the one I had and the price was counterproductive. Oh, and the jake brake you may as well open the window and hold your hand out it, that would give more breaking than the Mercedes jake break -
lol... yeah I drove a mercedes for 4 months... so I know what you mean. empty on flat ground it seemed fine... loaded in the mountains you always had one foot on the brake and the other proping the door open just in case.

I like that mid roof freightliner though... well as much as I can like a freight shaker
