Engine wiring harness is the only thing that stumped me a few years ago. When using the turbo brake CEL would come on and it would derate the motor.
Dont see why they would throw parts at it like that though, not cool in my book.
New actuator on the turbo brake too I am guessing? Airline going to it OK?

Yeah new everything in that area. It's going back for work soon since its all under warranty. And yes, Clarke Power and Detroit did nothing but throw parts at the engine, I was later approached by a few of the mechanics in the shop and told the guy who'd been working on it really had "no business" on a Mercedes, so I only let one specific shift do the work now. Price wasn't too bad I reckon considering all I got, they ate a lot of the prices and gave me a lot of free stuff, but still almost 8 weeks down through out the summer . The problem at the end of the summer ended up being the new turbo, after another new turbo was put on it worked fine for awhile. Your problem you had sounds exactly what I'm experiencing, and that is what I've been suspecting for a long time, something in the wiring.

I think you got some of your facts confused. Daimler truck still owns Freightliner, Detroit Diesel, Orion Bus, Thomas Bus, Western Star and the list probably goes on. I have not been around the engines here a lot, but back in Germany they would outlast most competitiors when I lived over there. We only used V-8s and some of the older V-10s back than and all mechanical and no emmission stuff either.

I was curious. because theirs a us marshall seizure auction Im going to. theres a 2005 freightliner Columbia there and it has 1,057,585 on the o.d.
I heard they had put MB,s in some of them, detroits, too. don't know if they put cummins in them or not.
want to know somewhere in the ball park of the value of the truck. and should I stay away from the MB if it has that engine? -
Go to truck paper and see what a truck like you describe is retailing for and figure about 50% of that. Keep in mind that a retail price has some money thrown at the truck to make it road worthy whereas an auction truck is likely run down.
The MBE4000 is a great engine for what it is and in 05' it was likely the most reliable EGR motor on the market but had a well earned reputation for being weak. -
im otr,ng now in a 07 Volvo . be paid off in mar. nxt yr. Im not gonna put the 05 freight out to otr. just local. in nc. as far as a weak engine, im sort of used to that. isx 400st pretty sluggish at gross. on top of that, put 11r 22.5 on it to lower rpm at highway speeds. accelerates like a train.but once you get to speed, and level off, better mpg,s plus odometer is registering slower
I,ll do a little research on the 05, thanks for the info -
My take on the MBE4000 or OM460LA based on mine at 897, 000 mi I have done 1 head gasket and normal maintainence. Uses 1 gal of oil every 15000 mi and averages 7.87 mpg over the last year. Not the most powerful engine I have ever driven but gets the job done even with the autoshift
