Why waste money if is still working: i have 1,050,000 miles on my volvo D13 still original turbo.I'm running synthetic oils only,5w40, this maybe helps offers better turbo bearing lubrication.

First off, he has high mileage. Sure, it's not broke. But, how much will it cost him for a tow on the road and down time waiting for parts and labor? He should check with Cummin's to see if any warranty was done on it. The VGT Cummin's turbos seem to frequently fail.

If it's a 2007 model it has a he40 turbo and is coolant cooled. It also has a actuator that is electrically actuated and must be calibrated to the new turbo when replaced. There is a small amount of side to side play that is. 024in for the spec and the spec for in and out is. 005in . If you don't have any in and out play in the shaft and have no performance issues I wouldn't change it out.

Most fail between 650 and 850K miles. The only option is PDI diesel or Pittsburgh Power to get rid of the VTG turbo and remove all the egr stuff but you are looking at 10k. You will spend 4300 to 4800 to replace the one you have now. If have you the 10 grand get rid of the VTG turbo. It your call at this point it could go 10 miles or 150000 miles there is no crystal ball.
