You should have blew the doors off that Prime truck because they are one of the few companies you will be able to pass. Lol! Unless of course you name is Lantern and your list of victims is much bigger. Lol!

I see.......for transportation wise, how are most of the guys going to and from the building and hotel room? Cab? Shuttle? Rented car? Their own car/truck? Also, how far is the dmv from the hotel?

Everyone drives here. There is one from Wisconsin that commutes daily and I think 2 guys are close enough to go home on the weekends. Just yesterday I road to the dmv and class with one of the other guys in his truck. There really is no reason why you can't car pool some while your here. Its ten miles from hotel to Roehl HQ, easy to get to. DMV is downtown marshfield, its on the way. You really are best off if you come here with a car.

I was exactly the same way and that's how I ended up selecting Roehl and RDTC. And my wife made a similar comment. :) But doing the research has helped me while here at school so it was worth the time and effort. Best of luck to you!

    thanks!

goblue... I'm curious about the ...''better to have own car" what about once completing all training, don't the drivers get sent out with their trainers, routed towards home? Or maybe all my reading is starting to mesh everthing into a pile! :biggrin_25523:

Sounds like a good plan to me! Again, thanks so much for sharing your experiences.

Every day I look forward to the posts you guys make to glean more info... especially such as yourself, e.g. you are going for "dry van" and maybe later to "skate board"... I too am torn between which to haul... I like the physical aspect of the "skate board" but at the same time I worry about my age (just turned 58 a week ago) and physical ability to do that kind of work. I'm not over weight, but I am "soft" due to my daily physical activity for the past 19 years has been the half circle walk around my Barber's chair cutting guys hair... which is why I'm leaning towards the dry van... I'm not crazy about the difficult places a dry van has to go to sometimes, and the waiting to load/unload, often less miles, compared to the skate board (according to the chatter within the forum) etc. etc. So following your progress is/will be a great blessing to one such as I.

Good luck to the rest of your training week and test out on Friday!

Bigdubber...start with van. Get to know trucking first. See how driving fits your life at this age (I'm the same age). I started driving 8 years ago. You might find as I have you don't have the stamina or energy you did 30 or even 10 years ago. I stay out 3 weeks at a time. There are some 3 week periods that I am just worn to a frazzle at the end of. Other times I come in not feeling too bad.

Van has quite a bit of drop/hook loads. Flat bedding for the most part is live load and unload. Both have there pros and cons. After 6 months you can switch to flat bedding if you think you can do it. A few guys I have known, including my late husband, started leaving flat bedding around the age of 60 after years of throwing tarps.
