As someone who spent 11 years on a fire/ambulance department, I have seen the firsthand consequences of DUI. All DUI's should get 10 years in prison. Life if anyone is injured or killed.
Anyone who thinks that the type of bad judgement shown by DUI offenders should be ignored or "moved past" hasn't seen some of the hoorific sights I've seen.
I can forgive many things, but this isn't one of them.

If you want to be a trucker then you can not drink I have told friends this before was ignored and they lost their cdls if you can not go without alcohol try another career .

I got a DUI back in 1989( I was 19) and now I do not drink but I DO NOT say that people who drink do not belong behind the wheel of a truck nor do I put people down for drinking. Now if he was in a tractor trailer it would be a different story. If he waits 5 years he will be able to be hired by major companies. I hope he finds a good job until then. People are to quick to judge someone now without even knowing the circumstances.

He got a DUI. What circumstances other than driving while intoxicated could there be?
Chinatown Thanks this. -
The woman that killed my friend blew a .002. She was moving her husbands truck while my friend was changing a tire for another woman in a 4 wheeler. He's still dead.

First offense-no injuries or deaths : loss of drivers license for life.
First offense - resulting in one death : life in prison, no parole.
First offense - resulting in two or more deaths : execution within 30 days.
I'll add this also, if the injury is severe or death involved, the driver forfeits everything to the victim or victims family, bank accounts, real estate, personal possessions, everything. I know one guy personally, who was not drinking, but backed over a child and killed the child, from carelessness, backed out onto the street without looking. He's been living in poverty for years with many years to go, because he must give most of his paycheck to the childs family. Sorry, no sympathy from me!
Car insurance isn't required, by law, to cover any wreck if someone is misbehaving or drinking; the financial obligations are on the driver.Last edited: Feb 12, 2013

Zero tolerance for DUI, DWI....especially for a CDL holder. You drink and drive and get caught...learn to do something else.
Chinatown, joseph1135, Joetro and 1 other person Thank this. -
Someone with over 20 years of experience should know better. If he can't find a job I say god riddance. One less idiot on the road in a CMV.

I would almost bet some giving the guy crap drove under the influence at some point and didn't get caught making them feel superior. Not saying, just saying.
I don't drink but when I did, I know I got lucky more than once. Unless the person is an alcoholic or has multiple DUIs, mistakes can be overlooked, not ignored but overlooked. Jmho, yours may vary.popcorn169 and kerosene jockey Thank this.
