What 53 foot I have to buy?any make,models

One with no more than 41' from the kingpin to the center point of your tandems.
A typical USA fixed spread axle 53' step with an 18' kingpin will be illegal in western Canada. I've taken two spread axle trailers thru all of the western provinces (both 48' reefers) and the max allowed on the trailer tandem is 20, 000 pounds both axles combined. I think the ideal setup is a 51' trailer with a sliding tandem (both spread or closed tandem configuration) with and 18' kingpin. That offers the most flexibility for running the states and Canada. And the 35% overhang posted above is also correct.stoyan Thanks this. -
72"...???? Wha?
I've taken 121" spreads thru alberta scales and BC scales and never had a problem. They allow 307 centimeterd I mean centimetres which converted is 121". WHATCH YOU TALKIN BOUT MANITOBA??... (grin) -
They're not legal over 20,000 lbs. Were you empty or light?
-
I was light, well under 20, 000

Triaxle with lift center axle (a la some of Doonan's stuff) not an option?
stoyan Thanks this. -
I used the wrong words. You are legal at less than 9100 kgs (20,000 lbs) on the trailer if the spread is greater than 72"
As long as the center axle is down, yes. Also you need a trailer lift axle permit for Manitoba.stoyan Thanks this. -
Allan, is that an annual permit or is it a trip permit? I've never heard of such a thing before.
