Companies usually cover the cost of lumpers for company drivers and some reimburse O/O. Each load and lumping company gets paid different. I've paid as little as $40 or as much as $200, but the company gave me a comcheck to pay them. I didn't pay any out of pocket fees to lumpers.

If you're a company driver, you are reimbursed for it. I've hired lumpers twice to unload a 53' van. Cost under $100 each time. I got a company advance for it and paid with a comcheck. Reimbursed when I turned in the receipt.

More and more companies are setting up accounts with lumper services and the deals are made before you even arrive.. the lumpers have the time that the load is supposed to be there and they unload it and all you have to do is sign the lumper company forms..

I forgot that! I've had a couple customers that we have lumper accounts with. Sign and off you go.

Do not feel bad about asking question! If you don't know , you don't know. Only one way to fix that. That behind us, shippers and receivers think the carrier is going to eat the lumper fees? They are going to pad it in some where. So knowing this would it have been cheaper to pay a man 20 bucks a hour to unload . They are going to pay in the long run.

I remember going to a few places in the Northeast back when I drove for Stevens where lumpers took cash only. But thqt was paying independent guys off thr street, now it seems most places have legit lumper services who take comchecks, even credit cards.

i have NEVER paid a lumper in cash...every time they took comcheck. not to say you never will have to, but its darn rare. so money out of pocket for lumpers is nearly never an issue. also, you will be reimubursed as a company driver, provided you turn in that receipt. ALWAYS make a copy so when they say they didnt get it you have some recourse. because even though you paid by comcheck, the money was an advance to you as far as the company is concerned, and will be taken out of your pay unless receipt is turned in. (lumpers fee is a huge range! have paid as little as 35 bucks and as much as $280. over $150 is pretty rare)
