that is point of 6x2 ,
and they use less tires because two drive axles each push it its way ,best traction control would not help you if you dont have weight on axle
i understand if you are afraid of selling that truck later but all arguments from technical point are on 6x2:
fuel economy, comfort,empty weight, drivability(6x2 dont push forward when turning or taking bends), turning radius , tire usage, traction in slippery conditions,even suspension components last longer because less strain but it is not that noticeable
6x4 is only needed for driving on soft ground and much higher weights -

please send an update on how that tranny works with the rears. i knew cummins claimed it gets better at lower rpms but most guys i know have been changing trannys or rears to get them up alittle. but i think you said you will be around 1400 so you might be great they where running the 1150 to1300 range and said the power was not there and the mpg dropped did the swap got up around 1400 1500 range and said they are doing better. so would love to hear how yours does...

The 6M/6S ABS for some reason faults quiet often with the 6X2. No one knows why. Yet. Because all of the torque push one axle, there are lot of spinning and excessive tire wearing. An advanced traction control can provide a smooth start, and a good electronic can adjust the weight share instantly between the axles, to load only the maximum allowed weight on the drive one. The traction problems can occur on uneven surface as well.
Also Kenworth tests to death everything new, they do not throw together every available parts and let the customer to figure out how it works.
Yes, you are right. I spec my truck to 62mph and actually I drive at 61. I drive faster only if it is free. Downhill.
Actually, the Cummins recommendation is 1370rpm for the engines over 450hp. The max torque available from 1200. At 450hp and under they reduced the sweet spot and the cruising speed by 100 from 2010, and they further reduced by 100 hundred from 2013. Now the maximum torque available from 1000 rpm, and the recommended cruising rpm 1170.Last edited: Feb 15, 2013

I'm still wondering what's wrong with the way you speced it. I think you did an excellent job. I sat in one at the KW dealer. Finally a KDub with leg room on the floor. No 45 deg upward slope to the firewall. All kinds of places to stretch your legs. Congrats I'm jealous!!!!
