Anyone ever tried having some pamphlets made up and sending them to local shippers ...Not having much luck with getting any customers with the walkup approach ...Any other ideas ? Thanks

pamphlets can get expensive in a hurry, got any buisness cards? word of mouth is the best advertise there is. best having the experience to do the job is key.trying to do trucking on your own is'nt easy takes time.

I came up with an electronic "pamphlet" that was about 6 pages long, it had photos of equipment, who I am, what we do, a page with our insurance on it ( b/c insurance is one thing everyone will ask about or expect you to have good coverage) as well as contact information, etc...a good thing is that it was free to do!

A real pamphlet has a good chance of being in the trash or misplaced....I emailed this out to potential customers and picked up a few direct customers this way. They all want to see something other than a guy with a business card talking about how he has new rig, etc....It added a touch of professionalism in this business and I think set me apart a little bit. Best of luck with finding a solution that works for you!

its not just appearance alot of people want to know from other shippers that have used you that you can get the job done .see if you can get a letter of "praise from some of the shippers you use to include that might help

So many carriers have unreliable operators today that a good operator with good references should be able to make inroads with small to medium shippers. The big shippers have too many policies in place for a small guy to get a fair chance. The challenge is always how to market yourself. I like Marlin's idea. Appearance and first impression is very important and having someone who can give you a strong reference is key.
