Hey guys, just filled out my online application and submitted it to Prime. Any tips on how to speed up the application process? Should I call and talk to a recruiter also, or just wait for a few days and cross my fingers? I'm new to the trucking industry and I have no idea about the hiring process, or how long it takes for them to process an application. I do realize it will be a few months of school and training, but I'm simply curious about the initial application process.

    Hey there Huck!
If you filled out the application I suggest you call first thing in the A.M. I have an awesome recruiter named Cyndy that is trying to get me into the upcoming class. I will P.M. you here phone number.

She is very informative. Tell her I sent you! :) Details will be in P.M. (personal message- just reply to it so I know you got it)

What she will tell you is the best thing to do is to take the written test for your CDL in your state. Start studying and get the text knocked out. The website has a practice test which is about 80% of what I took on my test today... and I passed. ( The practice test is list at the top of this page).

    Good luck!

You mentioned the pet policy; think about Prime flatbed because pulling refrigerated trailers hauling food, many shippers & receivers won't allow pets on the property. They won't search your truck looking for pets & many reefer drivers have pets anyway. It's just something to consider, looking at the big picture.

In the application, they asked me to check a box for the type of haul I wanted to do, and I chose reefer. I actually want to do Flatbed because I'd love the extra work and exercise, but I assumed they might not hire flat-bedders as fast as they hire reefers. Am I wrong?

Call the recruiter and have your preference changed to flatbed. I'm guessing the flatbed division doesn't have as high a turnover as reefer. Cranes & forlkifts load flatbed trailers & the driver just secures the load. It's very easy. Normally, with flatbed, you will be unloaded before you can get the chains & tarps stowed & not all loads are tarped.

Don't know if its changed or not, but Prime flatbed had some of the best looking trucks on the highways.

If I am not mistaken. Everyone will train in reefer division and after training then you can change divisions. My application process took 2 days or so.

I can tell you to hope and pray that you dont end up with the same recruiter I have. I called today for about the 20th time in a month-only to find out that my recruiter is out on medical leave(still). I have dealt with another person who was supposed to try to help me out, but I couldnt reach her either ,and the guy I talked to said I have to submit another app after 30 days if it hasnt reached a certain point in the process. Not sure what her reason for leave is,and I wish her the best, but it seems like my app should have been given to someone who is going to be able to work on it...

They do have instructors and trainers in the flatbed division, but it is much easier to get trained on the reefer side because there are many more trainers available.

If you're starting fresh, no cdl, it's easier to start on the Reefer side. At the end of that time, 4-6 weeks tops, you can switch to a Flatbed TNT trainer to learn the business. There are many more reefer trainers than flatbed.
