Well things may be looking up....I have a load booked for next week from one of my regulars that pay well....
Hopefully...It was just a "West Coast Thing" for this week only..... -
Look a little deeper. Depending on the locale, there are usually local regulations in place that dictate the fuel retailers have to stay within a few cents of each other. And considering that it doesn't matter whether it is a BP station, Conoco station, etc, they get their fuel from the same terminal. That has more to do with the pricing at the pump being relatively close from one outlet to the other.

I am taking it that the rate is 1 dollar per mile? I haul reefer and I know better than to go to Cali with a flat. unless the rate going in is so good that it pays to come halfway back as well. SMH

Can't see that on the company driver side of things. I know of no place that is paying it's company drivers the same or less than they got paid 10 years ago. There might be a bottom feeder out there that does.

Are there any company drivers on here that could tell us what kind of fuel discount they get at the pump? It's hard to compete when the playing field is slightly slanted in one direction. But from my understanding most of that savings is not even coming close to the driver's pocket. Just last week I had two of my old drivers call asking if I was hiring. They went to big companies about 6 yrs ago b/c they could offer 401k and I couldn't, and I didn't have the big health insurance plans. Turns out the big companies did away with the 401k last year and one of the companies nearly doubled the driver's payment on his family plan.

Real Businessman? do tell please point to your listing on Forbes 500?
Here's a load for you.
Origin: SELMA, ALABAMA
Destination: COLEMAN, FLORIDA
Pickup Date: 02/14/2013 I hauled this load for 1,183.00 and got paid same day. Not the best area but 2.58 a mile still and I didn't have to go
Carrier Pay: $ 819.00 North to where snow and rain was. I can post a picture of the rate if you doubt it?
Miles: 447 So you pilot your ship any way you want You turning down a cheap load isn't going to help
Rate Per Mile: $ 1.83 me. You remind me of the driver I met when I first started he looked at my truck
Weight: 9000 lbs and said: " you don't have a real truck" I looked out back and replied: "you don't even have a
Size: L 0'0" W 0'0" H 0'0" truck the company does" . Mr. REAL businessman you wouldn't last 9 months in the
Hauling I do. -

You are right, I did say those where good rates for LTL's, not a truckload. Not every truckload is exclusive use, so why not take advantage and put something extra with it? LTL freight has been around for a very long time, and will always be a part of the industry, some of the most money I have ever made per mile, per day has been from LTL's, there is no reason in the world they will ever just become considered truckloads and pay truckload rates.

Mr.Mcoo. I certainly hope you didn't go to florida for 2.57 a mile. If so that is some pretty cheap stuff for tis time of year. Just sayin. Actually thats really cheap and the broker is having one heck of a family dinner on his profit off of you. 1183 bucks for 460 miles is a joke going to Florida.
