Years back I came upon a yaucht hauler fuelling up. Since it had been raining heavy and steady all day the name on the truck door especially caught my eye.... Noah's Boats. Laughingly I asked if he'd heard something on the weather report I should know about. He got a big grin on his face, reached up and knocked on the side of the boat...... and two black Labrador Retrievers popped their heads up in the cabin windows.:biggrin_2559:

If mileage is a factor then maybe I should sail it to Houston or Brownsville Texas before shipping. What would the height have to be to lower the cost. (maybe remove more gear)

Thank you for the input thus far.

I have not purchased it yet. I am considering a purchase of a 52 Ft Endeavour.

I am not sure on the height. However, the interier head room is 7 ft. and the keel is 5 Ft 6. I guess 13 ft if everything is stripped.

I would purchase it delivered and ready to sail in SanDiego.

Let the broker worry about moving it and save you the headache and risk of moving and reassembling it

    One reason. COST!

Update; I am considering another purchase. A 43 ft Endeavour sail boat (24K) beam is 11.5 and ht is 11.5

I would need transport from Houston Texas to San Diego. Any suggestions. My F-350 is rated to haul 24K but I would need a trailer.

It is hard to say with out seeing a set of plans for your boat. With a 15' beam though that is a wide boat. And I do know a boat like that is going to have a pretty deep skeg and is most likely going to require a stretch lowboy trailer if not a specialized boat trailer.

The part that is really going to nick you in the butt is if the height from the skeg to the highest point on the boat after the masts have been pulled is more than 12' the reason for this is, is that on a standard lowboy they have a deck heigh of about 18" thus at a legal limit of 13'6" leaves you with 12'

If you are over 13'6" you will have to have a pole car, which is not a huge deal.

The other issue is how much does the boat weigh? You stated 30,000 lbs, but is that a completly empty all the oil and water drained, barnicles blasted off and supplies removed, or is that what it weighs now.

This will make a huge difference because most lowboys are going to be about 48,000 lbs empty and have a limit of 80,000 lbs before an overweight permit must be obtained, these are expensive!

You may consider bringing your boat in through Corpus Christi, not having to go through houston may save you some money and headache. That is why a lot of people bring thier boats in through here.

I worked for a crane company that pulled Tommy Lee Jones'es boat back in 08, really nice vintage motor yacht, took it to san antonio and put it in a warehouse while a hurricaine blew through.

I know for moving that large of a load you are going to be looking at between 5 and 8.00 a mile for the truck, and an additional 1.35-1.55 for the pilots.

As well as stated before it will be a couple of grand worth of permits, and I can tell you a crane large enough to pull that boat out of the water is going to run aboug 1600.00 on each end.

You figure 1430 miles, you are looking at around 13,500 for the hauling, and another 3200 for the cranes pretty easy.

Cyber1, as you may have gleaned by now boat hauling is an expensive business. We haven't even touched on insurance, which can be staggering. Public Liability alone is several times that for regular freight even if you were moving your own craft.

If you do this, hire a pro outfit that has the proper equipment, knowledge and experience.

On the other hand, hauling a load of sailboat fuel requires none of the above.:biggrin_25525:
