    Well, some headway has been made. It's looking as though CRST Malone is the company we're going to lease on to. They have a terminal about 50 miles from us in Rockport, IN. They pay 75% of the load and offer benefits such as health insurance to O/O. I'm not a fan of CRST's van division, but according to a couple of O/O's my step dad and I know who are leased there, Malone is completely different and managed far better than CRST Van. The two guys we know are brothers and have been O/O's at Malone for nearly 10 years each. Any input anyone has about CRST Malone would be appreciated as I'm always open to opinions.

    Here's the truck my step dad and I are probably going to buy, barring anything unforeseen happening in the next week or two. It's a '97 with 300K on the rebuilt 470hp Detroit and 40k on the Eaton Fuller 13spd. It's a one owner truck and all the maintenance records are with the truck. The guy who had it pulled dry van with it. We'll be pulling flatbeds with side kits (aka covered wagon).

    That looks like a pretty good truck, check over the drives and power divider closely. Once you start running it, assuming you get it, keep an eye on how hot the front differential and power divider get. Columbias and Centuries are fuel efficient, but are nasty to work on.

    If you keep the speed down, a Classic can get decent mileage. The worst thing is the turn radius is pretty long. I like the FLD 120 with the setback axle, and they are usually cheaper to buy than a Classic.

    I was wondering what had happened on this.

    I like the colors and lights. My 2000 was a classic. Really liked it. But the turning radius did suck.

    Since you have the maintenance records, you should really look them over for anything that might need work not yet replaced. A headache rack should be put on too.


    I don't know anything about CRST Malone, but the fact the terminal is close has to be a plus. The other drivers you mentioned would be a good source.
