I'm a veteran and am just trying to provide for my family starting at IITR next month for my Class A CDL I applied at Schneider for the apprenticeship program and the job was offered to me a few days later and I want to know is it worth my time? Or should I research other companies that could pay better/ benefits etc...

as a new driver pay wont be very high any where, only you can really determine if it's worth your time, do they have a veterans program? there are good start up companies out there to go with, it's just trying to find the best fit.
-
I kind of figured about the pay :/ the reason I asked is Schneiders program allows me to receive a housing allowance from my GI Bill for my first year which I didn't see anyone else doing that
-
Im gunna say that if your interested in the flatbed side you might wanna look at them companies first.
-
Ask Schneider about attending their tanker school. That would prepare you for some excellent jobs should you someday decide to leave Schneider.

As a Vet myself perhaps suggesting you look around more for better options, something you will make money and not waste time trying to repay the company as a indentured servant.
Any company driver training program comes with a heavy cost of owing them if you decide to move on before the time limit is up.Logan76, rocknroll81 and RickG Thank this. -
Avoid any company training . If you fail to meet the one year obligation they won't certify your training .
I think there are far better options for veterans than trucking but if that's your choice use your G.I. Bill benefits to go to an accredited school .aiwiron Thanks this. -
Another option that would keep you free of being a indentured driver, apply for a government education grant.

Thank you for your service.

Thanks for the responses I am attending IITR with my GI bill benefits not a company program the reason I was interested in Schneiders program is because for that first year you are considered "in school " and receive a monthly check from your GI bill in addition to regular pay. Trucking certainly wasn't my first choice it's just there's nothing out here or anywhere for that matter that is hiring aircraft mechanics ( which is what I did in the Air Force)
