I agree... which was also the point of my "dumb question"... something is missing... to quote Shakespeare...
"thou doth protest too much"
Or if accurate, as Trooper One and others have pointed out... hell of a case there for the lawyers to cash in on... without documentation (Video?), other witnesses (depending on her age, how upset/hysterical she was at the time of seeing her father arrested, ect... his daughter may not be a "reliable" witness) it will be a difficult one to prove, even by lower civil standards.

CARB just got gutted by Bush. Thank god.
-
Only partially. It was on the fuel mileage standards, not on the anti idle laws.
-
This officer what is is name is their a link to where someone can contact
this officers troop/dept to find out if this is true -
i'll bet the cop in question never shuts his cruiser off when he's on break, or running a speed trap.
i would have shut the truck off, waited an hour or so, then called 911, told then i need an ambulance, my 6 yr old has frostbite, and i'll get arrested if i start my truck to warm her up. then, call a local news station, and ask them to meet you at the hospital -
It is aimed at Diesel's idling. So the cop would have no problem.
I do like your idea of the 911 call though. But it might back fire. Bad luck if you have any luck at all. They might go for child endangerment and why not a motel. You know how they look down on us. -
Really the cops buddies and his superiors would make sure that some human services agency would step in and charge you with "child endangerment" just to cover their butts.
Really I am not crazy about a child being in an industrial setting like a CMV. Driving or riding in a truck exposes a person to a lot of workplace hazards.
Could you imagine a forklift operator bringing his six year old daughter to work so she could ride on his forklift with him? -
He could have refused to sign it. I know in some states that is an instant arrest.
-
I have to disagree here. I was running around with my dad from when I was a small child. I knew not to go running through shops, and where the blind spots of the trucks were, etc. None of us ever went to daycare or had babysitters. If you ask me, there is more risk to a child going there then riding in the truck with dad.

You bring up a good point, lol. There's some missing information with this story. Somehow, if this story is even legitimate, the situation was escualted either by the officer or the driver. The initial contact by the trooper might have been about idling, but there's more to this story.
Here's my thought process on some of this. I understand wanting to take your kid out on the road, but there's some considerations the adult should take first: Is it safe to take a 6 year old on the road in the middle of winter, if you knew there was the possiblity of going to a State with laws about idling. That's a hardship a driver has to take, so why put a child through that if you know that's the way the law is. There's better times of the year to take your child on the road.
