Hi all, I have a question for any who know about the ooold cat engines. I'm helping a friend revive a 1961 KW with a 1673 Cat that hasn't run in decades. Now that we have navigated the positive ground system enough to get the beast to turn over, we need to find (for sure) where the fuel shutoff is for the injector pump.

There appears to be no electrical solenoids to run a shutoff on the injector pump, so I'm assuming that it is a mechanical shutoff. Of course, there is no evidence of THAT on the pump either. So my best guess is that the truck originally had a "pull to run" knob on the dash that simply limited the travel of the fuel rack as run by the gas pedal. Push the knob in and it allows full return of the rack lever and the engine shuts off. Not much is original on the machine and there is a high idle knob rigged up where the shutoff knob might have been?

Does anyone know anything about these old Cats? How far off am I? I really want to hear this old thing run. I'll post videos when it happens...

    Cheers

is there something on the fuel pedal to hold it down a little when starting? that is how they work on the older dozers, you just pull the throatle lever a little to start.

As promised, here is the video of the first start.

There was no electric fuel shutoff...just had to let the gas pedal all the way back. Enjoy...
