No, it's illegal. which is extremely stupid in my opinion. Legally you can go get plastered come back to your truck and pass out, but you can't drink one in your truck, get out and toss the can and go to bed. Most people overlook it for this reason. It's stupid.

NO u can be fired for it no matter what company. u could also go to jail and get LOTS of CSA points even if ur not driving no beer inside a CMV
-
I don't drink any on the road, but what makes it illegal? If you're in the sleeper, then you're technically in your home and are allowed to drink. I haven't looked for the law on this because I don't need to drink that bad, but if someone has a link I'd like to know for certain.

It's the law. You cannot have alcohol in the cab/sleeper of a CMV. It's not about being an alcoholic/needing one that bad. You're away for months at a time and can't have a beer in your 'home'. BS I say!

if u wanna be tech here. even drinkin can be illegal at a bar then going to your truck. Reason? cuz your KEYS are in reach you are inside of the truck! Do you want an idiot trucker drinkin inside his truck getting up 5hours later driving and killing someone i sure dont. there so much that could go wrong even if he dont have plans lets say the truck next to him is on his. he has to move his truck out of way so his dont go up. he cant cuz hes drunk..

That is stupid! It's called being a responsible adult no matter what you're driving. Everyone who drinks has keys within reach. So therefore no car owner can ever drink. It's illegal for them to drink and drive too! Also, you want to be technical, alcohol is out of your system 4 hours after your last drink.
-
Depends on how much alcohol you consume. You lose .01 BAC an hour roughly. So if you only had a .08-.10 BAC, then in 4 hours you would be good to go...sorta. I think a CMV DUI is .04 so it'd be dependent on the officer.

Again, it's just being a responsible adult. You're an adult, you have a job, you have responsibilities. You're not going to get drunk and drive a couple hours later, you're going to go to bed, take a full break and get up and go about your day like everyone else in this world who drinks in the evening. If you can't do that, you shouldn't be working.

I agree fully, I have stopped at the casino on the road and had a beer with my trainer, and then got back to the truck and sleep for the night then head out the next day. That was 2 years ago, and I see nothing wrong with it.
The part I said about making it on the road without a drink, is because I just prefer not to. Of course there are days where I'd like one before bed, but its just the way I figured I'd have less troubles. You are definitely right, there is no difference in us drinking after we get off work and Bob the local mechanic and then sleeping it off.
