Having come from a 26 year career in LE, and just finishing up at RDTC, I must say that my experience fit your description well. Respect, in my last years in LE was hard to find and a lot of underhanded dealings too, just made me sick. I did not experience any of that at RDTC. The trainers, drivers, all employees in Marshfield I came across went about their business and were always friendly. There were no unrealistic expectations or demands, just show up on time and do what is required of you. I will also say that my classmates came from exceptional backgrounds and were fantastic people, I think maybe they are screening well too, not sure. In my book, respect goes a long way and I feel very comfortable starting out at Roehl. You're right about the horseplay too, it was fun at training but there is a line that no one crosses, I think it is built into the atmosphere and I appreciate that.

Good for you goblue.....best of luck there in your new career.....Yes I agree, I do believe they prescreen applicants closer than most of the "if you can walk and breathe you have a job companies"......and they won't hesistate to cut you loose in the middle of the program if they see you won't be a good fit....or if you screw up, as it should be!!
I felt the same way there as you when I started as you mentioned your level of comfort which I say is just as important as learning how to safely and properly operate the vehicle.....we all know those feelings of angst and worry when starting out a new path in life and it's so much easier to deal with if you are getting positive feedback to yourself that "YES, I do believe I made the right choice here".......I do believe ROEHL is way above board the rest in promoting this type of atmosphere in their training program as well as the company.......again it's not the place for just anyone, they are simply asking you to act like a mature, responsible adult and be ready and willing to listen and learn and operate in the fashion they expect, after all it is their business to run as they see fit.
Stay Safe Sir!! LOL, I'm guessing you're a Sir...regardless, Stay Safe!!Last edited: Feb 19, 2013

Glad it worked out for you Blue. My trainer called earlier and said we are delayed .................. possibly till tomorrow. The load he is supposed to pick up before he comes to get me is at a con with thirteen trucks in front of him.
Yeah! Back to Wisconsin ..... my worst nightmare. I had hopes the next time I "visited" the great refridgerator/freezer that is Wi. it would be spring. At least this time I'll be making $. -
Wish I had thought of WI faxing the license to Ohio this morning.
Got 326 miles BTW today from Ohio to Missouri. Also a 45 back, fuel fill on my gas card, new loyalty cards from Pilot & T/A.
Can't hardly hear this 2012 Freightliner compared to the 2007 version at RDTC. Shifting is different and I have to watch rpm as it builds so quick in low range. Shifting every 3-5 seconds up to 8th.
Trainer has been with Roehl 7 years & driving for 10. Knows his stuff and a nice guy.
We unload at 0600 then new load to Kentucky at 0900. Maybe we'll stay in the south until it warms up!Bigdubber Thanks this. -
Come on, you know you loved it. As I type this it's -1 F in Rochester and 3 in Marshfield

That's good to hear and good to know. The one we had in training was pretty loud out on the highway.

Went to Minnesota DMV today and got license switched over without issues; the guy helping me had his supervisor briefly look at the paper Wisconsin temp license and he said he was OK. Also got my hazmat, tanker and doubles/triples endorsements added while I was at it.
Called the DriverLine again today and this time got through to an FM; it turns out that I'm currently assigned to the Fleet Ops Manager (supervisor of the flatbed FMs, who was out of the office today) until they pair me up with a trainer. The FM I spoke with said that it would be next week sometime before I go out with a flatbed trainer, which is OK with me.
Glad to hear you guys (Blue, Irish, OSU) are progressing well.Bigdubber Thanks this. -
It'll be around March 6, I put in a special request for you.
Just kidding.
technoroom and Bigdubber Thank this.
