I was asked for an Alabama Coil Certificate in Ohio in order to use snap binders at the mill (I have mine its an easy test)
-
Many guys have their dispatcher take it for them so...it must be really easy!
-
I have mine from CRST Malone when i worked for them! Dont need it anymore.
-
Your trucking company should show you how to properly secure coils ld and unld coils. All this is is more revenue money.
-
Isn't the certification just a one time thing tho, or do u have to renew it??? I'll have to look at mine
-
What company was that??? BT used to do that as well. They would grab a coil out of US Steel and bring it down Cline to the warehouse next to SNI's yard w/o securing them. They lost several on the off ramp to 169th street and one crushed a car killing a woman. US Closed the warehouse shortly after that in 2008. #### shame it had to happen like that. No reason for not at least throwing a couple chains. Only takes 5 min

You are correct that companies "should" show drivers how to properly secure a coil. But since innocent people have been killed due to improperly secured coils coming loose, evidently all trucking companies are not doing this! If one $25 test gets only one driver, out the thousands that take the test, from dropping a coil on a car load of children, I am all for this "revenue" collecting law. The test might just cause someone to think and possibly save your family members life.

I just looked at mine. Just like a Twinkie, it has no expiration date.

I thought the Alabama certification was required for hauling in the state, not just if loading or unloading. They wanted $25/truck so we decided not to haul coils in Alabama.
I can't tell from the picture if there was other securement on the tractors. Many used equipment haulers throw a strap over the cab to keep the plastic top from blowing off intransit.
