Federal law still forbids the use/possession/cultivation of even small amounts of pot for medical uses.

I guess if it is IGNORANT and SELFISH for me to NOT want to be on the same road as a DRUG USER, so be it.

Most of the people I know who drink, only drink one or two (beers or mixed drinks) and that's it. If "most people who (you know) drink abusively and do stupid things, find new friends.

So you've NEVER abused alcohol? Never? And none of your friends EVER HAVE either? I sincerely doubt it.

That's the problem. People abuse it. They grow up and get over it and stop but, at some point in their lives, they OFTEN (not ALWAYS) abuse it.

I don't have any friends who abuse alcohol. I have no use for people like that. I just see the news and the statistics on drunk driving and I know it's very prevalent EVERYWHERE and it's horrible.

And who made that decision? And how do you know it's right?

It used to be well accepted that rapists were right and women always "asked for it". Things have changed, haven't they?

The world is not black and white. I think you need to remember that more often.

Yes, pot is illegal and alcohol is legal but that doesn't mean everyone should use either of them on a regular basis. Alcohol is a recreational drug, just like marijuana, it's just a legal one. Doesn't make it right.

The overreaction of most US citizens to the mention of the word pot is quite amusing. You're the only country in the world who FREAKS OUT over ONE joint. Speaks volumes about the education of the authorities there. Why not spend your time getting the REAL criminals - rapists, drunk drivers, coke and meth users? Those are the ones who kill others. Like I said, I don't use pot - never have (just tried it once years and years ago) but the overreaction and vehemence of people in the USA to the thought of someone having ONE joint is hilarious!!!!

I agree with you....I have no pity for anyone that does any drugs.....you will have a hard time finding anyone that will touch you....I have never used any drug but for the past 3 months....I have been drug tested by my company...they said my name had been randomly drawn...for 3 months in a row?

The reason being is because there was thig guy that drove with the same company and he is the one that made it hard on all of the drivers...he also tested positive and they fired him on the spot....ZERO TOLERANCE....

I am glad you won't be otr because my family is out there too....:yes2557:

Ok everybody figures that it isn't ok to smoke a joint because just smoking a joint is an illegal act.

But what if a driver (we'll call him "Driver X") takes a vacation in Amsterdam. On his last night in Amsterdam he visits a coffee shop like this one.

Where he buys a pack of these

And smokes them with a woman he has an instant connection with, like this Dutch beauty.

The next morning he kisses his new soulmate goodbye and hops on a plane back to the USA.

he gets home Sunday morning and on Monday he reports for duty, only to get selected for a random drug test. And of course it shows a positive for THC.

Now what? Driver X didn't do anything illegal. He didn't report to duty while still impaired by his legal marijuana use.

Will he be suspended from driving? Will he have to complete D&A treatment in order to drive again?

By the letter of the law, Driver X did not break a single law. Is Driver X now the same as the guy that has 2 cold beers on a Saturday night with dinner?

we can argue that all day. that's like x's and o's. just because what he did was legal there does not mean it is legal here. bottom line is impaired is impaired and it has no place in the trucking industry.
