Its worked for me many times. It's surprising what can happen if you ask nice and be professional.

Me too......I have picked up loads 1 or 2 days early just by calling in advance and asking and being professional!
A good attitude in this biz really helps!

I unload at one spot regularly, everybody hates going there and sales ALWAYS has the appointments screwed, I never have a problem, I made friends with the night shift guys, always being friendly, and willing to dump on our sales guys and throw them under the bus, just for comedic relief, and.....2 coffees and a box of timbits.....under $5........I always get unloaded, even while they turn others away! My appt is usually for the next day, no prob....

We had a customer the other drivers used to complain about. Took forever to unload, the receiver talked too much, wasting time, etc.
A dozen donuts once a month or so got me preferred treatment. If another driver showed up with a flatbed load leaning, or damaged material, etc, they would call the supervisor, get the cameras out, send it back, etc. If I showed up with the same load, they would just unload it, nothing said or done.

It all comes down to courtesy, and treating people like you want to be treated.

I have a bucket full of used horse shoes if you need any. Actually I glued 2 of them on the back of my pipe unloader, just for grins, and the first load of pipe I unloaded, one of them fell off. A couple of days later the other one fell off, so just threw them in my side box and gave up on the idea. So much for good luck.
