Took me a couple of days, but I made it through this entire thread. Sounds like a good group of guys helping each other out where they can and having a little fun, too. Retired Navy and looking forward to a 3rd career. Got a sweet deal working part time driving with a small dry van outfit until retirement. Was wondering how difficult it is to adapt to the spread axle? Also, not too worried about home time and interested to see if Maverick is OK with keeping you out longer giving them and the driver a bit of flexibility. My tendency is to be a bit anal retentive when it comes to attention to detail so flat bed seems to be an area I might enjoy. A bit concerned with some of the physical parts since I'm not the biggest guy in the world and will be hitting 60 in the not too distant future. However, I never have backed down from a challenge so I am pretty sure I could adapt. Would be coming out of SW Michigan which seems to be pretty solid in their hiring area. Any thoughts?

When I worked for SNI I usually didn't start until almost 1200. That way I'm looking for parking at 0000-0200 while all you early guys are just starting your day and leaving. Now I'm doing mostly 0700 starts which means parking around 1900-2100 which can be a little more interesting.

. I am 61 and have no problem. Maverick will be happy to let you stay out. Spread axle is a challenge but being a Navy guy you will.catch on quick!

I agree. That is.why I like starting at 0400. Today I.started at 0300 to.beat the ice storm. I just go to.bed so I can get 6 to 7 hrs.of.sleep and never have an issue parking unless it is in New jersey lol.Civilservant Thanks this.

"Freightboxes turn on a dime, we need $1.25." is what I have written at the top of my windshield, both sides to remind students they are not pulling their cdl school trailer behind them anymore. Spread axles turn "slower" Easier to control. And for the trailer tires sake, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't set up every back to be a 90 degree!!! or alley dock as I've heard from my students. My oldest student so far was 62. Thoughts.......give Maverick a call. Your driving experience, may or may not exclude you from having to go out with a trainer for a minimum of 21 days. Some experienced drivers still choose to go out with a trainer but they are not held to the 21 day minimum. A lot of the experienced drivers I meet that just went thru orientation and securement training have told me they wish they would've gone out with a trainer for a bit but that's your choice sir. Thank you for servingCivilservant Thanks this.
