As a start, I'm Eric!
I was accepted into their MTI course (April 29th, 2013, Cartersville, GA). I'm overly excited! A lot of people in my family have been truckers most of their lives, and now I have my chance to do it. I'm tired of the generic job where you clock in at 3pm each day, and have to leave at 11:30pm every day, just to get up and have to do the same thing over, and over, and over.. looking at the same crap that has been there for so long. I've been working in a carpet mill for the past 8 years, I need something different. My grandfather told me long ago, while I was riding OTR with him back when he worked for Bigalow carpet (91-93.. summer vacation).. he said "I just got tired of someone telling me how I had to do my job." That has stuck with me for the past 15 years. I don't have any kids, which makes this even better.. I've been told by many, that it's like a vacation everyday. Over time, I'm sure i'll digress on the excitement of it. I just have to keep in mind, that I won't see the same stuff/people every day! I lived out of a cab for 2 months one time, so I'm pretty sure I can do it again. I kind of want to challenge that.. lol

Any, and all tips are great.. I'm sure I can do this!
Also, where do I find rain gear? Do I need to hunt for reflective rain gear for later?
I'm about to start the MTI with Millis.

Welcome aboard..........it's an experience like no other. I will say this, you either love it or hate it. Anything in between usually makes for a very short career. Your Grandfather was right, there is no one telling you how to do your job daily, but with that said, if you dont have a strong work ethic and ability to "police" yourself, you wont make it.
No one tells you when to get up/sleep or much of anything else. It's up too you and thats where most "new" drivers fail. I am sure many others will offer thier advice as I have and I suggest you listen and take it all in. This job isnt about the Great places you get to see, or visit or spending time at Truck Stops or terminals...it's about picking up your loads, delivering them on time or early and being safe in the process. Everything else is "Icing on the cake"!
So yea - it's just like any other job only different! LOL Good luck and keep us posted on your progress!
Oh Yea - Rain Gear is great to have and it being reflective is good but not required!sirkus34 Thanks this. -
