With all due respect to your NJ radar certification, if the radar unit is either uphill or downhill from the target there is no cosine effect as there is no difference in closing speed because of angle. When the angle between the radar unit and the target vehicle is increased by the target (Or Radar unit) going up or down hill and the target vehicle (Or radar unit) doing the opposite the closing speed will be affected the same as if it were a left or right angle. The problem with using cosine error to defend oneself is that the measured speed decreases as the angle increases. For example you could be doing 80 but as the angle increases between the radar unit and the target, the radar will show a closing speed less than the actual speed. How can a measured speed lower than your actual speed benefit one in court?
In other words cosine error works to your detriment, not to your favor.
Best regardsx#1, VisionLogistics and double yellow Thank this. -
It still shows inaccuracies in the use of the radar. If there is no way of accurately reporting ones speed regardless if it is plus or minus. If there is any discrepancy regarding actual road speed vs radar speed the state will have to provide some pretty stellar courtroom testimony articulating his final reported speed. Guarantee it gets dismissed or at the very least downgraded.
