hey i was thinking of making a switch to JB hunt and wanted some pointers, the good and the bad from anyone who may already be on the particular account with them. i live in houston but the account that they want to put me on runs from dallas to Kansas city, i was told 11days on and 3 days off(usually every other weekend). there is a sign on bonus of $1250.

recruiter told me that the miles are 2600 avg weekly and that in some cases if im close enough to home that i could just go home for my reset. i was told that Houston has openings for local driving jobs sometimes and if i just started on this type of run that once one of those local gigs opened that i'd have first dibs as an already hired driver opposed to someone applying for the first time

Jb is a great gig if its dedicated. I worked on the home depot average pay was 880 and I was grossing 1100 a week consistently. If you like to run you'll do good. I had to leave for personal reasons it was in chicago but I check every day for az where I'm at now. They have consistent freight

Agree if on the dedicated, and they look to be on top financially vs the rest. Don't forget to look at Con Way Truckload Services.
JB really swings after those one carrier accounts, everything from food services to who knows? Just watch out on the rail work, hear only place it pays out is in Chicago. Inter-modal is still better than that port crap and JB Hunt rules in that rail area bar none.

I like them I have been running family dollar dedicated for a year main thing is show up on time and don't hit things and you will do well the thing that might anoy you is quarterly and sometimes monthly training but that's part of the deal and they pay well I can run two 500 mile loads a week and bring home more than most otr drivers .

I worked onHomedepot DCS out of columbia Mo, Then switchted accounts due to depot frieght. I went to utah on this account first then ended up by waco texas same account. I have been here for 11 years. Dcs or FMS is the way to get hometime and make good money if your willing to work. But IMO great company to work for overall.

The dallas to KC is intermodal or rail I am sure. I dont think its that bad but at times canhave issues by thats more the rail and shippers.

Agreed, DCS/FMS is only way to go. Unless things go wrong, and they can, I'm usually home weekends, Friday afternoon/evening until Monday morning. If I only do (usually never happens (until this week)) one 4 day run that I have been doing, I still make more than I did otr 7 days a week for 3-4 weeks at a time. I usually do that run plus some local stuff on Monday, which means I'm also home that night. Last week stuff went wrong (kinda). Home early Sunday morning, off today and I will just be doing my 4 day run. The guys I work for are very decent. I'll probably be switching runs next week and this run may be going into a rotation. It's one of their lower paying runs as far as time on road versus money made, but like I said, this run still pays better than 7 days otr. Do a lot of recruiters lie about positions, absolutely. For the DCS account you're applying for, probably not. If you want to work, you'll probably earn more than that average.

Another BTW. If they told you first dibs stuff, be wary. It's hard to change from one position to another within this company unless you're moving somewhere else that's far enough away from your original position. If you're otr, it'll be a painintheass to change to a local job unless you're moving out of that region and they need a local driver where ever it is you'd be moving to. If you want local, get it now.

Thank you, that's what i needed to know because the recruiter made it seem like i should just hire on for now and switch when something local opens up. i was a little iffy about doing that because it did not sound promising.
