I have a perfect driving record other than that one dui and I did blow really high but it has been five + years since and I haven't gotten any others since. How will this affect me in getting my cdl and a job.
Got a dui 5 years ago, but want to get a cdl.

Truck driving is a safety sensitive job. Most companies will see a DUI on your record and not even give you a second look. DUI and trucking, or any safety sensitive job do not go hand in hand. Dont take me the wrong way im not passing judgement...just being realistic. If I were you Id be looking into getting a pardon first...
Tonythetruckerdude Thanks this. -
Some companies have a 5 year and a 7 year requirement for dui's. Just go look up some companies and their web page will tell you the requirements.

Thank you.

There are plenty of companies that will accept you after 5 years. Most will require it to be 5 years after all sanctions are completed. If I were you, I would go the company school route as they won't bring you to their school if you don't meet their criteria. Stick with whatever company you choose for a full year plus, as more doors will open at 7 years, and then at 10 years

You will have no problem at all finding work. If the company training programs won't accept you, then go to a private school & you will have no problem.

It just may affect your descision. You best call companies first before getting your cdl.Five yrs you may be out of the red flag zone but maybe not.

If its only 5 years old you may have a hard time getting on at a good company. Once it gets to be older than 10 years AND you have no other serious violations, plus a good stable work history more options will become available. You can probably get work, just remember it won't be all be sunny skies and rose buds to start with. The main hurdle in your way will be companies insurance carriers though, sometimes there are many hoops they want you to be able to jump through. Good Luck.
